PDP’s Dr. Mike O. Enahoro Backs Proposed Edo Airline, Urges Constructive Criticism Over Partisan Opposition

Engr. Dr. Mike O. Enahoro, a senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has publicly expressed support for the proposed Edo Airline, urging political actors to prioritize constructive debate over partisan condemnation.

In a detailed statement titled “Beyond Partisan Condemnation: Let’s Embrace Constructive Criticism”, Dr. Enahoro stressed that opposition should focus on solutions and strategic planning rather than outright dismissal of government initiatives. While acknowledging pressing concerns such as infrastructure decay, healthcare, education, and unemployment, he argued that labeling the airline as a “misplaced priority” or “elitist” reflects a narrow and historically inaccurate view of development.

“Economic development does not occur by fixing potholes alone,” Dr. Enahoro said. “It also requires strategic investments capable of unlocking commerce, mobility, tourism, investment inflow, job creation, and long-term revenue generation. Aviation, when properly structured, is not a luxury—it is an economic enabler.”

He pointed to the New Edo Line, a state-supported transport initiative once criticized as unnecessary, noting its tangible benefits in mobility, job creation, and economic stimulation. Dr. Enahoro argued that, if properly structured as a public-private partnership, the Edo Airline could similarly create jobs, stimulate tourism, expand logistics services, and increase business traffic, benefiting Edo citizens beyond the elite.

While recognizing the risks inherent in capital-intensive projects, Dr. Enahoro called for rigorous oversight, transparency, and phased investment rather than blanket rejection. He criticized the use of inflammatory rhetoric, stating that terms like “cretinous” or “fantasy” do little to advance intelligent public discourse.

Dr. Enahoro’s endorsement signals a push for principled, development-focused engagement in Edo State politics, emphasizing that the true measure of governance is improving lives over scoring partisan points.
