NMA Taps Ugbodaga to Lead Strategic Liaison with Hospital Chief Executives

ABUJA — The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has appointed the Medical Director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Benin City (NOHB), and Publicity Secretary of the Committee of Chief Medical Directors (CMDs), Dr Philip Ugbodaga, as Chairman of its newly constituted National Committee on Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors (CMDs/MDs) Liaison.

The appointment is aimed at strengthening institutional engagement between the NMA and the Chief Executives of hospitals and other healthcare institutions across the country, while creating a more structured platform for dialogue and collaboration on issues affecting the health sector.

In a letter conveying the appointment, signed by the Secretary-General of the NMA on behalf of the National President, Prof Afekhide Earnest Omoti, the Association charged Ugbodaga and the committee with developing effective mechanisms to bridge communication and engagement gaps between the NMA and CMDs/MDs.

The committee is also expected to facilitate regular interaction between the leadership of the Committee of CMDs and MDs and the NMA President, National Officers’ Committee (NOC) and National Executive Council (NEC), as well as promote greater participation of hospital Chief Executives in NMA activities and programmes.

According to the Association, the initiative will provide a structured framework for consultation and collaboration on healthcare delivery, professional development, institutional administration and the welfare of medical practitioners.

Reacting to the appointment, Ugbodaga expressed appreciation to the leadership of the NMA for the confidence reposed in him, describing the assignment as both an honour and a responsibility.

He said the committee would work towards building a stronger and more coordinated relationship between the NMA and CMDs/MDs, while ensuring that the experiences and perspectives of hospital Chief Executives contribute meaningfully to policy discussions and the advancement of Nigeria’s healthcare system.

Also commending the appointment, the Chairman of the Edo State Branch of the NMA, Dr Andrew Oseghale Eigbedion, expressed gratitude to the national leadership of the Association for recognising and entrusting the responsibility to one of the branch’s former chairmen.

Eigbedion pledged the full support of the Edo NMA to Ugbodaga, expressing confidence that his experience and leadership would contribute to the success of the committee and further strengthen collaboration between the Association and healthcare institutions nationwide.
