Benin City, Edo State

Dr. Ernest Iyere Ahamioje, a hopeful for the Edo State House of Assembly representing Esan South East Constituency, has declared his intention to provide firm, principled, and development-oriented representation if elected, insisting that he will not serve as a “docile seat” in the legislature.

Speaking during an interactive session with stakeholders in the constituency, Dr. Ahamioje emphasized that effective lawmaking requires courage, independence, and a clear focus on the interests of the people. According to him, the House of Assembly must function as a proactive arm of government capable of robust debate, oversight, and people-centered legislation.

“I will not occupy a seat merely to warm benches or echo positions that do not advance the welfare of my constituents,” he said. “Esan South East deserves a strong voice—one that can engage constructively with the executive while remaining accountable to the people.”

Dr. Ahamioje outlined plans to actively engage foreign investors and development-focused donors to channel investments into Esan South East, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, small-scale manufacturing, youth enterprise, and infrastructure. He noted that such engagements would be designed to complement the economic blueprint of the Edo State Government under the leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

He stressed that legislative representation must go beyond lawmaking to include strategic facilitation of opportunities that attract capital, create jobs, and stimulate sustainable local economic growth.

“Our constituency is rich in human capital and potential. By aligning foreign investment initiatives with the state government’s economic agenda, we can unlock new opportunities for employment, innovation, and inclusive development,” Dr. Ahamioje stated.

The assembly hopeful further pledged to prioritize transparency, constituency engagement, and regular consultations with traditional institutions, youth groups, women associations, and professional bodies to ensure that legislative actions reflect the real needs of the people.

Political observers note that Dr. Ahamioje’s emphasis on assertive representation and economic diplomacy reflects a growing expectation among voters for lawmakers who can combine legislative competence with developmental advocacy.

As the race for the Edo State House of Assembly intensifies, his message signals a campaign focused on accountability, strategic partnership, and tangible economic outcomes for Esan South East Constituency.
