FERMA Lists Ubiaja–Ekpon Road for Maintenance Following Senator Ikpea’s Sustained Advocacy

Kingsley Ohens reporting

Residents of Edo Central Senatorial District have received a major boost as the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) officially included the Ubiaja–Ewato–Ewohimi–Ekpon Road and the Ibore Road Spur to Ewu–Uromi–Ekpon Road (Delta State Border) in its latest invitation to tender for the maintenance of selected federal roads across Nigeria.

The development follows sustained advocacy by the Senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Joseph Igiagbe Ikpea, who had consistently engaged the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and other relevant federal authorities over the deteriorating condition of the strategic road corridors, urging timely intervention.

According to the FERMA publication, the proposed projects will cover extensive maintenance works, including site clearance, drainage rehabilitation, culvert construction, repairs of failed road sections, bridge maintenance, asphalt overlay, surface dressing, road markings, and other essential engineering works designed to restore the roads to safe and motorable standards.

The inclusion of the roads in the federal procurement process is being celebrated as a significant milestone and a reflection of Senator Ikpea’s unwavering commitment to attracting critical infrastructure to Edo Central. For years, residents, motorists, traders, farmers, and other road users have grappled with the deplorable state of the highways, making the planned intervention a welcome relief for communities along the affected routes.

Across the district, the announcement has been welcomed by stakeholders and residents, who described the listing as the outcome of purposeful legislative engagement and consistent advocacy. They expressed optimism that with the procurement process now underway, the long-awaited rehabilitation of the roads will soon become a reality.

The latest development further underscores Senator Joseph Igiagbe Ikpea’s commitment to responsive representation and his resolve to pursue initiatives that improve road connectivity, stimulate economic activities, and enhance the quality of life for the people of Edo Central Senatorial District.
