The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to driving sustainable development across key sectors through the SHINE Agenda, with a focus on infrastructure, security, and overall socio-economic growth.

The governor made this known while receiving Muslim faithful at the Government House in Benin City during a Sallah homage marking the end of Ramadan.
Represented by his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, Okpebholo emphasized that his administration remains unwavering in its responsibility to protect lives and property. He called on residents to actively support the government’s efforts to combat insecurity by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activities.
Describing Eid-el-Fitr as a deeply significant occasion, he noted that it marks the conclusion of Ramadan—a sacred period characterized by fasting, spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and renewal. According to him, the celebration embodies universal values of peace, compassion, unity, and love.
“The Edo State Government recognizes the importance of this occasion and the ideals it represents. As we celebrate, we must embrace unity, forgiveness, and gratitude, while strengthening peaceful coexistence across our communities,” he said.
He further stressed that the SHINE Agenda serves as a strategic blueprint for sustainable development, particularly in critical sectors and infrastructure, aimed at improving the quality of life for Edo residents.
“Together, we can overcome present challenges and build a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Edo State,” he added, while extending Eid greetings and goodwill to the Muslim community.
In his remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, commended the prevailing religious harmony in Edo State and urged citizens to sustain support for government initiatives.
He described Ramadan as a period of spiritual renewal, purification, and growth, encouraging residents to uphold values such as charity, compassion, and diligence beyond the fasting period.
“Edo State stands out for its peaceful interfaith coexistence. The simultaneous observance of Ramadan and the Christian fasting season earlier this year underscores the unity and shared purpose among our people,” he said.
Also speaking, the Chief Imam of Benin Central Mosque, Abdul-Fatai Enabulele, commended the Okpebholo administration for its infrastructural progress, particularly in road development across the state.
He acknowledged improvements in road networks and urged the government to sustain the momentum to ensure citizens continue to benefit from democratic dividends.
The cleric also called for intensified efforts to tackle insecurity and social vices, including kidnapping, terrorism, robbery, and sexual violence, stressing that national development can only thrive in a peaceful environment.
While congratulating the administration on its achievements over the past 17 months, he identified key areas requiring urgent attention, including energy supply, public safety, environmental sanitation, and improved regulation of public transportation.
The Sallah homage highlighted the continued collaboration between government and religious leaders in promoting unity, stability, and development in Edo State.
