Security: Governor Monday Okpebholo’s Leadership and Edo State’s Growing Reputation as a Safe Haven

Kingsley Ohens Writes From Opoji, Esan Central LGA.

Edo State is experiencing a remarkable transformation in its security environment under the leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo. Through decisive governance, strengthened collaboration with security agencies, and an unwavering commitment to law and order, the state is steadily emerging as one of Nigeria’s safer environments for residents, businesses, and investors.

Not too long ago, cult-related violence posed a major threat to public safety across several communities in Edo State. Rival cult groups frequently engaged in violent clashes that claimed lives, destroyed property, and created an atmosphere of fear. During such periods, many communities were forced to live under the constant threat of reprisals, while economic and social activities suffered.

Today, the narrative is changing. The significant reduction in cult-related violence and the sustained pressure on criminal elements demonstrate the effectiveness of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s security-focused approach. His administration has shown that security is not merely a campaign promise but a fundamental responsibility of government.

Governor Okpebholo deserves commendation for providing purposeful leadership and prioritizing the protection of lives and property. His resolve to support security agencies, strengthen intelligence gathering, enforce anti-cultism measures, and create an environment where criminal groups find it increasingly difficult to operate has contributed meaningfully to the restoration of public confidence.

One of the greatest achievements of the administration is the renewed sense of peace being experienced across many parts of the state. Communities that previously lived in fear are gradually regaining confidence, while businesses, educational institutions, and social activities are benefiting from a more secure atmosphere. This demonstrates that effective leadership, backed by political will and coordinated security operations, can produce measurable results.

Security remains the foundation upon which economic growth and social development are built. Investors are naturally attracted to stable environments, families are more confident about their future, and young people are encouraged to pursue education, entrepreneurship, and productive ventures instead of criminal activities. In this regard, Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to strengthening security contributes not only to public safety but also to Edo State’s long-term economic and social progress.

The administration’s approach also sends a strong message that criminality will not be tolerated, regardless of the individuals or groups involved. By ensuring that cultism no longer enjoys the operational freedom it once had, the government is helping to reshape the image of Edo State as a place where law-abiding citizens can live, work, and thrive in peace.

While security challenges require continuous vigilance and no society is entirely free from crime, the progress recorded under Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration reflects the importance of visionary leadership, institutional cooperation, and sustained public support. Maintaining these gains will require continued investment in intelligence-led policing, youth empowerment, community engagement, and effective prosecution of criminal offenders.

Governor Monday Okpebholo’s commitment to making Edo State safer is a noteworthy example of governance driven by action rather than rhetoric. As these efforts continue, the state is well positioned to strengthen its reputation as a peaceful, secure, and investment-friendly destination, where every law-abiding citizen has the opportunity to live without fear and contribute meaningfully to development.
