Benin City, Edo State — Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has inspected the ongoing construction of the Eguaholor–Iguomon–Uvbenisi–Oza Road, including a spur to Ohe Community, a strategic 14-kilometre road project linking Uhunmwode and Orhionmwon Local Government Areas of the state.

The road project, located within Uvbenisi, the community of former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, is expected to significantly improve connectivity among several agrarian communities, enhance access to markets, and stimulate socio-economic activities across the two local government areas.
Residents of the host communities turned out in large numbers to welcome the governor, expressing appreciation for what they described as the long-awaited intervention that has brought renewed government presence and hope to the area.
During the inspection, Governor Okpebholo, accompanied by the Commissioner for Water Resources, Barrister Washington Osifo, toured completed sections of the road, including a 774-metre stretch already nearing completion.
Speaking to journalists after the inspection, the governor said the project underscores his administration’s commitment to inclusive development and equitable infrastructure delivery across Edo State.
“This is Obaseki’s community, and you can see the excitement on the faces of the people. When I visited here during the campaign, the road was completely inaccessible. I made a promise that once elected, this road would be constructed. Today, I am here to inspect the progress of work done so far,” the governor said.
Governor Okpebholo added that the project reflects strong federal backing for Edo State’s infrastructure and agricultural development drive, commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting practical governance in the state.
“The people are happy because the President is delivering the dividends of democracy to Edo people. As long as resources are made available, we will continue to deploy them to develop Edo State and improve the lives of our people,” he stated.
Community leaders and residents commended the intervention, noting that the road had been abandoned for several years, resulting in economic hardship and limited access to essential services.
Hon. Friday Agbonze, Councillor representing Isi North Ward in Uhunmwode Local Government Area, said the project has brought relief to the people after years of neglect.
“Before now, several attempts were made to draw attention to the poor state of this road, but nothing was done. In just one year, Governor Okpebholo has brought this road to our community and opened it up for development,” he said.
Another resident, Mrs. Oyenmwen Igbinedion, described the road construction as a turning point for the area, particularly for farmers who rely on access roads to transport their produce.
The project is expected to boost agricultural productivity, ease transportation challenges, and improve the overall quality of life for residents of the benefiting communities.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele, the road construction reflects the Okpebholo administration’s resolve to deliver people-focused infrastructure and ensure development reaches all parts of Edo State.

The inspection took place on Saturday, 17 January 2026.
