Ekpoma, Edo State | January 12, 2026
Senator Ikpea Joseph Igiagbe, on Monday, January 12, 2026, paid a solidarity visit to the palace of His Royal Highness, Barrister Anthony Abumere II, the Onojie of Ekpoma, following the recent attack on the royal palace by aggrieved protesters.
The visit, described as a gesture of respect and deep concern, underscored the Senator’s commitment to the preservation of peace, cultural heritage, and traditional institutions in Ekpoma and Esan land at large. Senator Ikpea emphasized that his visit was not merely political, but borne out of his identity as a son of the soil who understands the sacred role of the palace in the social and cultural life of the people.
During the visit, the Senator unequivocally condemned the attack on the palace, describing it as painful, unacceptable, and contrary to the long-held values and traditions of the Esan people. He expressed heartfelt sympathy to His Royal Highness, the palace chiefs, and the entire Ekpoma community over the distress and disruption caused by the incident.
Senator Ikpea called for calm, dialogue, and mutual understanding, stressing that no grievance, however legitimate, justifies the desecration of cultural heritage or the dishonour of traditional rulers. He noted that peace remains the most enduring pathway to justice, sustainable development, and communal progress.
Reassuring the Onojie and the people of Ekpoma, the Senator pledged to engage relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure the full restoration of peace and to prevent a recurrence of such incidents in the future.
