Urhobo Progress Union Leadership Backs Ikpea, Okpebholo and APC Ahead of 2027

The leadership of the Urhobo Progress Union has reaffirmed its support for Senator Joseph Igiagbe Ikpea, Governor Monday Okpebholo and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, following an engagement with ESV Tony Okonigene, Special Adviser to Senator Ikpea on Political Matters, in Ekpoma.

The meeting, held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, provided an opportunity for the Urhobo Progress Union leadership and Okonigene to exchange views on community development, political participation and the importance of sustained grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.

Okonigene, while receiving the delegation, appreciated the Urhobo Progress Union leadership for the visit and acknowledged the contributions of the Urhobo community to the economic and social development of Edo Central. He urged them to remain united, peaceful and law-abiding, while continuing to uphold values that promote the progress and good image of the community.

He also encouraged the Urhobo Progress Union leadership to sustain its support for the Senator Monday Okpebholo-led administration, noting the ongoing transformation across Edo State. He urged them to participate actively in the 2027 electoral process and support APC candidates across the various levels of government, from the Presidency to the Senate, House of Representatives and Edo State House of Assembly.

Okonigene further stressed the importance of grassroots mobilisation towards the APC’s stated objective of securing 2.5 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling on community leaders and stakeholders to contribute to the mobilisation process.

In response, the Urhobo Progress Union leadership thanked Okonigene for the warm reception and constructive engagement. They commended the efforts of Senator Joseph Igiagbe Ikpea in representing Edo Central and expressed their continued support for the Governor Okpebholo-led administration.

The Urhobo Progress Union leadership subsequently assured Okonigene of its readiness to mobilise its members in support of Senator Ikpea, Governor Okpebholo and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections, reinforcing the Union’s commitment to active participation in the political and developmental affairs of Edo State.

The Ekpoma meeting further strengthened the engagement between the Urhobo Progress Union leadership and Senator Ikpea’s political structure, with both sides emphasising the importance of unity, grassroots participation and collective responsibility ahead of the 2027 electoral season.
