The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Late Augustus Akhabue Aikhomu Foundation (LAAAF), Chief Dr. Leemon Ikpea, CON, FNSE, has extended warm felicitations to a distinguished member of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, retired Air Vice Marshal Anthony Ebehijele Okpere, on the occasion of his birthday anniversary.
In a goodwill message signed by Chief Dr. Leemon Ikpea, CON, FNSE, and made available to newsmen by the National Secretary of LAAAF, ESV Ambassador Tony Okonigene, the Foundation described AVM Okpere as an accomplished military officer, public servant, aviation administrator and respected Esan elder statesman whose life of service has left an enduring mark on Nigeria.
Chief Dr. Ikpea commended the retired Air Vice Marshal for his remarkable contributions to the nation, particularly through his distinguished career in the Nigerian Air Force and his subsequent service in the aviation sector and the Federal Government.
AVM Okpere served in several strategic capacities, including Director of Operations at Air Force Headquarters, Lagos, Air Officer Commanding, Training Command of the Nigerian Air Force, Kaduna, and member of the Armed Forces Ruling Council. He also served as Managing Director of the defunct Nigeria Airways Limited and as Minister of Aviation.
According to the LAAAF Chairman, the breadth of AVM Okpere’s career reflects a life defined by discipline, patriotism, leadership and a sustained commitment to public service.
He further acknowledged the birthday celebrant’s stature as a respected voice and elder within the Esan community, noting that his experience, wisdom and contributions to national development continue to command respect across generations.
Chief Dr. Ikpea expressed appreciation for AVM Okpere’s membership of the LAAAF Board of Trustees and his association with an institution established to preserve the legacy and values of the late Chief of General Staff, Admiral Augustus Akhabue Aikhomu.
He prayed for continued good health, strength, peace and fulfilment for the elder statesman, while wishing him many more years of impactful service to humanity, the Esan people and Nigeria.
