No fewer than 102 residents of Ahor community in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State have benefited from a two-day free medical outreach organised by Kifayat Global Energy Limited.
The exercise, held on Wednesday and Thursday, brought medical screening, health education and basic treatment closer to residents, with beneficiaries drawn from different segments of the community, including business owners, commercial motorcyclists, drivers, police officers and other residents.
The nearby police division was also among the direct beneficiaries of the initiative, underscoring the company’s commitment to extending its corporate social responsibility programmes to people within its immediate operating environment.
Speaking during the outreach, the company’s Auditor, Busuyi Olowoniyi, who represented the Director of Kifayat Global Energy Limited, Ismael Kola, said the programme was conceived to encourage residents to take their health more seriously.
According to him, the pilot edition was initially designed to cater for 100 residents but eventually recorded 102 beneficiaries.
Olowoniyi said the decision to include members of the police division and the wider community was deliberate, stressing that the company’s commitment to Ahor goes beyond its business operations.
He noted that Kifayat Global Energy had been operating in the community for seven years and considered the medical outreach an opportunity to give back to its host community.
“We want the people around us to know that our presence here is not only about business. We also care about their wellbeing,” he said.
Olowoniyi disclosed that the company plans to sustain the initiative as an annual programme, expressing optimism that subsequent editions would reach more residents and provide additional medical services.
Leading the medical team, Nafisat Allinson said seven medical personnel, comprising doctors, nurses and medical laboratory scientists, participated in the two-day exercise.
She explained that the first day featured health education on high blood pressure, while the second day focused on high blood sugar and related health concerns.
Residents were subjected to medical tests, including checks for malaria parasites, blood sugar levels and blood pressure, to enable the medical team identify possible health challenges.
Allinson said drugs were administered to beneficiaries based on the results of their tests, while residents found to have more serious medical conditions were referred to nearby health facilities for further evaluation and follow-up care.
She said the outreach provided an opportunity to educate residents on the importance of regular medical checks and early detection of health conditions.
At the end of the exercise, the organisers expressed satisfaction with the turnout, particularly the participation of personnel from the nearby police division and other community stakeholders.
They also disclosed that eye screening would be introduced in the next edition as part of efforts to broaden the scope of the programme and provide more comprehensive healthcare support to residents of Ahor and its surrounding communities.
