Okpebholo Receives Edo Chief Judge, Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Judiciary

BENIN CITY, EDO STATE — Governor Monday Okpebholo has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the judiciary and creating an enabling environment for the effective administration of justice in Edo State.

The Governor stated this when he received the Chief Judge of Edo State, Hon. Justice Daniel Iyabosa Okungbowa, alongside other judges of the Edo State Judiciary, who paid a courtesy visit to his office ahead of the commencement of the 2026/2027 Legal Year.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both the Executive and Judiciary to reaffirm their shared commitment to strengthening the institutions that sustain good governance, justice and the rule of law in the state. Discussions focused on continued collaboration between the two arms of government, the effective utilisation of Special Courts and the need to ensure speedy and efficient dispensation of justice.

Governor Okpebholo assured the Judiciary of his administration’s continued support, stressing that the government would remain committed to providing the necessary institutional environment for judges and other judicial officers to discharge their constitutional responsibilities effectively.

He also emphasised the importance of ensuring that justice remains accessible, efficient and responsive to the needs of the people, while maintaining the independence of the Judiciary and respecting the constitutional principle of separation of powers.

According to the Governor, a strong and independent Judiciary remains fundamental to building a peaceful, secure and prosperous society, noting that his administration would continue to support institutional development while upholding the autonomy and integrity of the judicial arm of government.

Governor Okpebholo expressed appreciation to the Chief Judge and the entire Edo State Judiciary for their cooperation, dedication and contributions to the administration of justice, assuring that his administration would continue working with relevant institutions to deepen accountability, strengthen governance and consolidate the rule of law across the state.

The engagement underscores the administration’s commitment to institutional strengthening under its SHINE Agenda and its broader vision of building an Edo State where justice, accountability and good governance remain firmly rooted.
