Edionwele pays tribute to Dan Orbih, recalls decades of service to Edo politics

Former member of the House of Representatives for the Esan Central, Esan West and Igueben Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Joe Edionwele, has paid tribute to the late Chief Dan Isi Orbih, describing him as a formidable political figure whose commitment, conviction and years of service left an enduring mark on the political landscape of Edo State and Nigeria.

In a condolence message mourning the death of the veteran politician, Edionwele said Orbih would be remembered not merely as a politician, but as a fighter, strategist, loyal party man and influential voice whose political engagements were driven by deeply held convictions.

According to him, Orbih remained a prominent figure in Edo politics for several decades, particularly through his leadership roles within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he served as State Chairman and subsequently as South-South Zonal Chairman.

Edionwele noted that throughout his political career, Orbih was actively involved in grassroots mobilisation, political organisation and the development of party structures, while also mentoring younger politicians and consistently defending positions he believed were in the interest of his party and the people.

He described Orbih as a politician who understood the fundamental importance of grassroots politics, noting that his political philosophy was rooted in the belief that electoral success was built from the wards, polling units and communities rather than from political rhetoric alone.

“Chief Dan Orbih was not a fair-weather politician. He was a fighter, a strategist, a loyal party man and a voice that could not be ignored,” Edionwele said.

The former federal lawmaker further observed that Orbih’s emphasis on party supremacy and his belief that politics should ultimately serve the people were central to his public life, adding that his influence often transcended moments of political agreement or disagreement.

He said Orbih’s willingness to stand firmly by his convictions earned him respect within political circles and made his voice an important part of political discourse in Edo State over the years.

Edionwele said the late politician would be remembered for his courage, commitment to his principles and significant contribution to the evolution of political structures and conversations in Edo State.

“Chief Dan Orbih lived his truth. He fought for what he believed in and left footprints that the next generation of politicians will study,” he said.

While commiserating with the Orbih family, Edionwele prayed that God would grant them the strength and comfort to bear the loss, and that the legacy of the deceased’s contributions to democracy and public service would continue to inspire future generations.

He described Orbih’s passing as the end of an important chapter in the political history of Edo State, saying his departure would be felt by those who encountered and worked with him throughout his long political career.

“Farewell, Chief Dan Orbih. A political giant has gone to rest. A chapter has closed, but the lessons remain,” Edionwele said.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the late politician.
