In a significant move aimed at strengthening the safety and security of educational institutions across the country, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), through its Schools Protection Squad (SPS), has launched a dedicated 24-hour emergency reporting channel for school-related threats and emergencies.
The initiative, coordinated by the Schools Protection Squad Command and Control Centre at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, is designed to provide a rapid-response mechanism for addressing security concerns affecting schools, students, teachers, and surrounding communities nationwide.
According to the Police, the emergency channel is available for reporting a wide range of incidents, including attacks on schools, attacks on student hostels both on and off campus, bullying, molestation, harassment, kidnapping or abduction of students, suspicious movements around school environments, and the presence of suspicious individuals along routes used by students.
The Nigeria Police Force emphasized that early reporting remains one of the most effective tools for preventing security breaches and protecting lives. As such, parents, students, teachers, school administrators, community leaders, and members of the public are encouraged to promptly report any perceived threat or unusual activity within or around school environments.
The Schools Protection Squad can be reached at any time through calls or WhatsApp messages via the dedicated emergency line:
0807 735 7777
The service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to receive distress calls, emergency alerts, and intelligence reports related to school safety.
In addition to the telephone and WhatsApp channel, the Police disclosed that the Schools Protection Squad is also accessible through the Police VGS mobile application, providing another avenue for citizens to report emergencies and security concerns.
The launch of the emergency reporting channel forms part of broader efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to enhance the protection of schools and learning environments across the country, in line with national and international commitments to safe education.
Security experts have consistently emphasized the importance of community participation in safeguarding schools, noting that timely information-sharing can help law enforcement agencies prevent attacks, disrupt criminal activities, and ensure the safety of students and educational personnel.
Reaffirming the collective responsibility of protecting educational institutions, the Police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and proactive.
“School safety is a shared responsibility. Early reporting can help prevent danger and protect children. If you see something, say something.”
For school-related emergencies and security threats, members of the public are advised to call or send a WhatsApp message to the Nigeria Police Schools Protection Squad on 0807 735 7777.
