Hon. Emma Ehis has urged residents of Ewatto and Ewohimi communities in Edo Central Senatorial District to preserve their longstanding bond of brotherhood, while appealing for patience and support for Senator Joseph Igiagbe Ikpea amid criticisms over infrastructure challenges in the area.
In a statement, Ehis maintained that Ewatto has consistently demonstrated goodwill toward Ewohimi by supporting its sons and daughters seeking elective offices, regardless of political affiliations. According to him, the relationship between the two neighbouring communities has historically been built on mutual respect and cooperation.
He cited the 2024 Edo State governorship election as an example, claiming that Ewatto gave overwhelming electoral support to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, whom he described as “an immediate brother,” despite prevailing political circumstances.
Ehis also highlighted what he described as the longstanding philanthropic contributions of the Ikpea family to Ewohimi Community. He noted that the family made significant financial contributions toward the construction of the palace ahead of the coronation of the Onojie of Ewohimi and later supported the establishment of the Ewohimi Security Network, describing both interventions as demonstrations of genuine brotherhood and commitment to community development.
Addressing criticisms directed at Senator Ikpea over the poor state of roads across parts of Esanland, Ehis argued that it was unfair to hold the lawmaker solely responsible, noting that the current federal budget had already been passed before his election to the Senate.
He stated that the senator had assured constituents that necessary procedures were underway to facilitate road rehabilitation projects, while interim palliative measures were also being considered to improve accessibility pending full-scale intervention.
Ehis further alleged that some of the criticisms circulating on social media were politically motivated and designed to undermine the senator’s image. He called on political stakeholders and community members to prioritize constructive engagement over divisive rhetoric.
Expressing confidence in Senator Ikpea’s political future, Ehis said he believes the lawmaker enjoys widespread support across Esanland and is well-positioned to secure another mandate from the electorate. He appealed to constituents to remain patient and continue supporting the senator, expressing optimism that his tenure would ultimately deliver meaningful developmental projects to the district.
He concluded by reaffirming Ewatto’s commitment to maintaining cordial relations with Ewohimi, stressing that both communities share common values and should continue to work together in the interest of peace, unity, and sustainable development.
