Frontline Edo State House of Assembly Hopeful, Igueben Constituency.

In this exclusive interview, Engr. Obehi Ayodeji Ayemere, a frontline aspirant for the Edo State House of Assembly representing Igueben Constituency, speaks on leadership, governance, grassroots development, and his vision for the people. He also commends the developmental strides of Monday Okpebholo while outlining his commitment to purposeful representation.

*Journalist:* Engr. Ayemere, you are widely regarded as a technocrat with a strong humanitarian disposition. What inspired your decision to seek election into the Edo State House of Assembly?

*Engr. Ayemere:*
My decision is driven purely by service. Over the years, I have worked closely with communities in Igueben and I have witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by our people—whether in infrastructure, education, youth empowerment, or healthcare. As an engineer, I am trained to identify problems and design sustainable solutions. Entering the legislative space is therefore a natural extension of my desire to provide structured and impactful solutions to these challenges. I believe governance should not be about personal ambition but about responsibility to improve lives.

*Journalist:* Critics often say that politics in Nigeria can be difficult for professionals who are used to structured systems. How do you intend to navigate that environment?

*Engr. Ayemere:*
It is true that politics can be complex, but professionalism is exactly what our political space needs today. My training as an engineer has equipped me with discipline, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Governance should be about planning, efficiency, and accountability—values that professionals bring to the table. I am confident that with integrity, transparency, and collaboration with stakeholders, it is possible to deliver results and restore public confidence in leadership.

*Journalist:* If elected to the Edo State House of Assembly, what will be your immediate legislative priorities for Igueben Constituency?

*Engr. Ayemere:*
My priorities will focus on people-centered development. First, I will push for legislation that supports rural infrastructure—roads, water supply, and electricity—because development must reach every community. Secondly, I will advocate for policies that strengthen education through improved school facilities and scholarship opportunities for our young people. Thirdly, youth empowerment will be key. We must invest in vocational training and entrepreneurship programs that can create sustainable livelihoods for our youths.

*Journalist:* You have been described as a leader with a “heart of gold” because of your philanthropic interventions. How do you intend to scale these initiatives if elected?

*Engr. Ayemere:*
Philanthropy is important, but true leadership goes beyond charity—it requires building systems that empower people permanently. As a legislator, I will focus on policies that expand access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. My vision is to institutionalize many of these initiatives through government programs so that they continue to benefit the people regardless of who holds office in the future.

*Journalist:* Youth unemployment remains a major challenge in many communities. What practical steps would you take to address this issue in Igueben?

*Engr. Ayemere:*
We must approach youth empowerment from both policy and practical perspectives. I will advocate for skills acquisition centers where young people can learn trades such as ICT, agriculture, and technical crafts. In addition, I will support initiatives that provide start-up grants and mentorship for small businesses. Our youths are talented and energetic; what they need is opportunity and guidance.

*Journalist:* How do you assess the leadership of the Edo State Government under Governor Monday Okpebholo?

*Engr. Ayemere:*
Governor Monday Okpebholo has demonstrated strong commitment to development through his people-focused policies and infrastructure drive. His vision for Edo State, particularly in areas of economic growth, governance reforms, and public welfare, aligns with the aspirations of many citizens. I commend his dedication to moving the state forward and I remain committed to supporting initiatives that will bring development closer to the grassroots, especially in constituencies like Igueben.

*Journalist:* Transparency and accountability are recurring concerns among voters. How will you ensure that your representation remains open and accountable?

*Engr. Ayemere:*
Accountability begins with accessibility. I intend to maintain constant engagement with the people of my constituency through regular town hall meetings and open communication channels. Representation must not be distant; it must be participatory. I also believe in transparent reporting so that constituents can clearly see how resources and opportunities meant for them are utilized.

*Journalist:* Many voters are increasingly skeptical about campaign promises. Why should the people of Igueben trust your vision?

*Engr. Ayemere:*
Trust is built through consistent actions, not words alone. Over the years, my engagement with the people has been rooted in sincerity and service. My track record in community development and empowerment speaks for itself. I am not entering politics to make promises that cannot be fulfilled; I am stepping forward because I believe the people deserve committed, competent, and compassionate representation.

*Journalist:* Finally, what message would you like to send to the people of Igueben Constituency?

*Engr. Ayemere:*
My message is one of hope and unity. Together, we can build a constituency that thrives on development, opportunity, and progress. Leadership is not about one individual; it is about collective effort. I remain committed to working with traditional leaders, community stakeholders, youths, women, and all residents to ensure that Igueben reaches its full potential.

Thank you.
