Residents Cheer as Governor Okpebholo Inspects Major Infrastructure Projects in Edo Central

Ekpoma, Edo State — Residents across Edo Central Senatorial District on Sunday turned out in large numbers to welcome Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, as he conducted an inspection tour of key infrastructure projects spanning Esan West, Esan Central and Esan North East Local Government Areas.

The tour was marked by cheers and expressions of appreciation from community members, who described the ongoing projects as evidence of responsive and people-centred governance, noting that the administration’s development agenda is having visible impact at the grassroots.
One of the major sites visited was the Ekpoma Modern Market in Esan West Local Government Area, where construction work has intensified. Contractors, construction workers and heavy-duty equipment were visibly active on site, indicating steady progress on the project designed to boost local commerce and job creation.

Governor Okpebholo also inspected the reconstruction of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) Shopping Complex in Ekpoma. The facility had been destroyed by fire during a protest, but reconstruction is now underway, with work ongoing on more than 20 shops affected by the incident.

At Ukhun Road, Eguare Ekpoma, residents gathered along the project corridor as the governor assessed the ongoing road and drainage construction aimed at addressing flooding and improving access within the community.

In Esan Central Local Government Area, the governor and his entourage proceeded to the Irrua–Illeh–Ukhun Road, where he evaluated the quality of work and adherence to specifications. Officials disclosed that construction on the road has reached an advanced stage.

The inspection tour continued in Esan North East, where traders, motorists and residents lined the Ivue Junction axis of the Uromi–Agbor Federal Highway. The stretch of road, currently undergoing reconstruction by the Edo State Government, is considered critical to easing traffic flow and enhancing regional connectivity.

The inspected road projects across the senatorial district are regarded as vital economic corridors, expected to facilitate the movement of agricultural produce, improve access to rural communities, and stimulate trade, investment and economic growth.

Observers note that the scale and spread of ongoing projects underscore the Okpebholo administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, improved socio-economic activity and increased revenue generation for the state.

Governor Okpebholo’s unscheduled inspection visits, according to government officials, form part of a deliberate strategy to ensure contractors maintain high standards and deliver projects within agreed timelines.
