The Esan Youths Organisation has extended its congratulations to the newly inaugurated Local Government Council Chairmen, Councillors and other principal officers across Edo Central Senatorial District, urging them to translate their electoral mandate into visible and sustainable development at the grassroots.
In a message of goodwill to the new council officials, the organisation described their assumption of office as a fresh opportunity to deepen grassroots governance and restore greater confidence in local government administration across the communities of Edo Central.
The group urged the chairmen and councillors to make the welfare of the people their foremost consideration, stressing that leadership at the local government level must be defined by accessibility, accountability and tangible results.
It called on the new officials to identify the most pressing needs of their respective communities and pursue practical interventions in areas such as rural infrastructure, primary healthcare, education, agriculture, youth development, employment, sanitation and access to basic amenities.
The Esan youths also encouraged the council leaders to maintain continuous dialogue with residents, traditional institutions, community development associations, women and youth groups, noting that inclusive participation remains critical to achieving sustainable development.
Beyond their statutory responsibilities, the organisation charged the new council administrations to work in synergy with the Edo State Government under the leadership of Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, particularly in taking the administration’s SHINE Agenda to the grassroots.
According to the organisation, the Local Government Councils have a critical role to play in ensuring that the policies and development programmes of the state government are effectively felt beyond urban centres and translated into meaningful improvements in the lives of rural and underserved communities.
The group further urged the council officials to embrace transparency and responsible stewardship of public resources, warning against practices capable of undermining the confidence reposed in them by the electorate.
It emphasised that political office should be viewed as a responsibility to serve rather than an avenue for personal enrichment, urging the new officials to leave behind measurable developmental footprints that residents would remember beyond their tenure.
The organisation equally called on the people of Edo Central to cooperate with the new council administrations and support initiatives capable of improving their communities, while maintaining constructive vigilance over the implementation of government programmes.
The Esan youths expressed optimism that with effective collaboration between the local councils and the state government, the current administration can achieve stronger grassroots development and ensure that the benefits of governance reach more people across Edo Central.
They once again congratulated all the newly inaugurated Local Government Council Chairmen, Councillors and principal officers, urging them to justify the confidence of the electorate through service, integrity, innovation and people-centred development.
