Distinguished Senator Joseph Igiagbe Ikpea, representing Edo Central Senatorial District in the Senate, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to delivering effective representation and people-focused development, urging constituents to remain confident in his vision for the district.
The Senator’s message was delivered by his Senior Legislative Aide, Hon. Prosper Iyere, who represented him as Special Guest of Honour at the 4th Engr. Adams C. Okoene Annual Public Lecture and Distinguished Personalities Award Ceremony, organised by the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Ekpoma Branch, on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Rev. Chris Oyakhilome Auditorium, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State.
The annual lecture, themed “Development of Local Technology: What Level is Nigeria?”, brought together engineers, academics, policymakers, students, and other stakeholders to deliberate on the future of indigenous technological advancement and its role in national development.
Delivering Senator Ikpea’s goodwill message, Hon. Iyere congratulated the Nigeria Society of Engineers for sustaining a platform that promotes intellectual engagement, innovation, and practical solutions to Nigeria’s developmental challenges.
He explained that Senator Ikpea assumed office to complete the unexpired tenure of the immediate past occupant of the Edo Central Senate seat, who is now the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo. As a result, he noted that the Senator is currently implementing projects and programmes within an already established budgetary framework inherited before his assumption of office.
Hon. Iyere emphasized that while public expectations remain understandably high, it is important for constituents to appreciate the realities of the legislative budgeting process, noting that Senator Ikpea’s comprehensive development agenda will be more fully reflected in subsequent budget cycles under his own legislative priorities.
He appealed to the people of Edo Central to remain patient and supportive, expressing confidence that the Senator would justify the trust reposed in him once operating within a budget designed to advance his vision for the district.
According to him, Senator Ikpea remains focused on providing purposeful leadership, sponsoring impactful legislation, facilitating meaningful constituency projects, and promoting policies that will improve the lives of the people across Edo Central.
Reaffirming the Senator’s commitment, Hon. Iyere assured participants that Senator Ikpea is determined to deliver quality representation anchored on accountability, inclusiveness, and sustainable development, while working collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to attract greater opportunities to the senatorial district.
The event also featured technical presentations, discussions on local technological innovation, and the conferment of Distinguished Personalities Awards on deserving individuals in recognition of their outstanding contributions to engineering, public service, and national development.
The Senator’s participation through his representative further underscored his continued support for professional institutions and initiatives that encourage innovation, technological advancement, and human capital development as essential pillars for Nigeria’s economic growth and sustainable future.
