The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the submission of candidates’ lists by political parties for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the Commission announced that the deadline, which was initially scheduled to expire on Saturday, July 11, 2026, has now been extended to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
According to INEC, the extension followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), acting on behalf of political parties that experienced difficulties in uploading the names and personal particulars of their candidates within the stipulated timeframe.
The electoral body stated that the decision reflects its commitment to promoting inclusivity and ensuring that all eligible political parties are provided a fair opportunity to comply with the requirements of the electoral process, while remaining within the provisions of the law.
INEC urged all political parties yet to complete the submission of their candidates’ details to make use of the extended period to upload the required information before the new deadline expires.
The Commission emphasized that no further delay should be expected and advised political parties to ensure timely compliance to facilitate the smooth progression of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The statement was signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.
