The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a consequential adjustment to the campaign timeline for the Osun State governorship election following a revision to the election schedule.
In a press statement issued on April 16, 2026, the Commission stated that the election date has been moved from August 8, 2026, to August 15, 2026. INEC explained that the adjustment follows its earlier revision of the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election released on February 26, 2026.
As a result of the new date, INEC fixed midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026, as the deadline for all political campaigns in the state. The Commission said the adjustment is in line with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which requires that campaigns must end 24 hours before election day.
INEC urged political parties, candidates, and stakeholders to comply strictly with the revised timeline, stressing that adherence to electoral guidelines is essential for maintaining order and ensuring a smooth electoral process.
The Commission further reaffirmed its readiness to conduct a credible, free, fair, and inclusive governorship election in Osun State, noting that all necessary administrative and logistical preparations are being aligned with the updated schedule.
The statement was signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.
