The Enugu State Police Command has dismantled an interstate vehicle theft syndicate, arresting multiple suspects and recovering two Mack trucks and a Toyota Highlander stolen from different parts of the country.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said the breakthrough followed intelligence-led operations carried out by operatives of the Command in December 2025.
According to Ndukwe, on December 22, 2025, at about 8:00 a.m., operatives attached to the Emene Police Division, acting on credible information received through the Command’s Control Room, swiftly mobilised to a location in Emene, Enugu State. At the scene, the police recovered a yellow Mack truck conveying a 40-foot container and a white Mack truck without a registration number.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the trucks had earlier been stolen from Aba, Abia State, and were already taken to a prospective buyer before police intervention led to their recovery. Two male suspects were subsequently arrested in connection with the crime.
SP Ndukwe disclosed that initial findings showed one of the suspects, Okenwa, is a Mack truck mechanic based in Aba, Abia State, while the second suspect, Adaka, is a scrap dealer.
The owners of the recovered trucks have since identified their vehicles, while further discreet investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate.
In a related operation, the police also foiled the sale of a stolen SUV. Ndukwe stated that on December 17, 2025, at about 6:40 p.m., operatives of the Uwani Police Division, acting on credible intelligence, arrested a male suspect, Emmanuel Chukwu, while he was attempting to sell a stolen Toyota Highlander Jeep at a car stand in Uwani, Enugu.
The recovered vehicle—an ox-blood coloured Toyota Highlander with registration number AGL 929 FX—was reported to have been stolen from Isolo, Lagos State. The suspect and the vehicle have since been transferred to the police division in Lagos State where the case was originally reported, for comprehensive investigation and prosecution.
Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, praised their professionalism, vigilance, and swift response to actionable intelligence. He reassured residents of Enugu State of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the new year.
The Commissioner also urged members of the public to continue cooperating with the police by providing credible information and promptly reporting suspicious persons and criminal activities.
