Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving teachers’ welfare and strengthening the state’s education system, as he commended teachers across Edo for their dedication, sacrifices and commitment to shaping the future of the state.

In a message commemorating the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, Governor Okpebholo described teachers as critical to the development of every society, noting that sustainable progress depends largely on investing in those responsible for educating and preparing children and young people for the future.

The governor appreciated public school teachers across the state for their service and patriotism, stressing that their responsibilities extend beyond classroom instruction to include the development of the values, skills and character required of future leaders.

According to him, his administration recognises that quality education begins with motivated and adequately supported teachers and will continue to take practical steps to improve their working conditions while investing in schools and the wider education sector.

Highlighting some of the administration’s interventions, Governor Okpebholo said 5,000 contract teachers had been absorbed into the state civil service, providing them with greater job security, while 6,000 additional teachers had been recruited to address staffing gaps in public schools.

He noted that the government’s objective was to ensure that children across Edo State, including those in rural communities, have access to qualified teachers and quality education.

“Today, we celebrate our teachers who have continued to serve our children and our state with dedication, despite the challenges they face. I want to assure every teacher in Edo State that your welfare matters to us and that we will continue to take practical steps to improve your working conditions,” the governor said.

Governor Okpebholo congratulated teachers across Edo State on the occasion, expressing appreciation for their continued service and contribution to the development of the state.

The message was conveyed in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele, on Monday, October 5, 2026.

“To every teacher in Edo State, I say thank you for your service. Happy World Teachers’ Day,” Governor Okpebholo said.
