The leadership of the Urhobo Progress Union has reaffirmed its support for Senator Joseph Igiagbe Ikpea, Governor Monday Okpebholo and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The position was conveyed during an engagement between the Union’s leadership and ESV Tony Okonigene, Special Adviser on Political Matters to Senator Ikpea, in Ekpoma on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss community development, political participation and the need for sustained grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
Receiving the delegation, Okonigene appreciated the Urhobo community for its contributions to the social and economic development of Edo Central. He urged the Union’s leadership to remain united, peaceful and law-abiding, while continuing to promote the progress and positive image of the community.
He also called for sustained engagement with the Senator Monday Okpebholo-led administration and encouraged the Union to participate actively in the 2027 electoral process. According to him, grassroots stakeholders have an important role to play in supporting APC candidates at the presidential, senatorial, House of Representatives and Edo State House of Assembly levels.
Okonigene further highlighted the APC’s mobilisation efforts ahead of 2027 and called on community leaders and stakeholders to contribute to the party’s grassroots engagement across Edo State.
In its response, the Urhobo Progress Union leadership thanked Okonigene for the reception and constructive interaction, while expressing appreciation for Senator Ikpea’s representation of Edo Central and reaffirming its support for the Okpebholo administration.
The Union also indicated its readiness to mobilise its members for active participation in the 2027 elections and support for Senator Ikpea, Governor Okpebholo and other APC candidates.
The Ekpoma engagement consequently underscored the continuing interaction between the Urhobo Progress Union leadership and Senator Ikpea’s political structure, with emphasis on community development, unity, grassroots participation and political engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
