Senator Joseph Igiagbe Ikpea, representing Edo Central Senatorial District, has felicitated with teachers across the senatorial district and Nigeria on the occasion of International Teachers’ Day, describing educators as indispensable builders of human capacity and critical drivers of sustainable national development.

Senator Ikpea, in his message to mark the occasion, paid tribute to the dedication, patience and sacrifices of teachers, noting that their influence extends far beyond the walls of the classroom. According to him, teachers provide the intellectual, moral and social foundation upon which individuals, institutions and nations are built.

He observed that virtually every profession and sphere of human endeavour is shaped by the work of teachers, as doctors, lawyers, engineers, scientists, entrepreneurs, public servants and political leaders all pass through the hands of educators at different stages of their development.

The Senator stressed that a strong society cannot be built without a strong education system, just as a quality education system cannot thrive without motivated, respected and adequately supported teachers. He therefore called for sustained attention to the welfare, professional development, working conditions and dignity of educators.

Senator Ikpea particularly commended teachers in Edo Central for their resilience and commitment to duty, acknowledging the important role they continue to play in nurturing young minds and preparing the next generation to contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities and the nation.

He also commended the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his commitment to improving teachers’ welfare and strengthening the state’s education sector through policies and initiatives aimed at creating a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.

According to Senator Ikpea, government’s investment in teachers is an investment in the future of Edo State, stressing that better-supported educators are better positioned to inspire students, improve learning outcomes and produce the skilled human capital required for economic growth and social progress.

The Senator reaffirmed his commitment to supporting legislative measures and government policies that promote quality education and improve the welfare and professional standing of teachers. He noted that effective representation must include deliberate efforts to strengthen institutions and sectors that have a direct bearing on the wellbeing and future of the people.

He urged teachers not to underestimate the significance of their daily service, noting that the impact of a teacher may not always be immediately visible, but can shape a child’s character, awaken intellectual curiosity, inspire ambition and ultimately transform an entire generation.

“Every doctor, lawyer, engineer, scientist, entrepreneur, public servant and leader has, at some point, been shaped by a teacher. The influence of a teacher may begin in the classroom, but its impact can extend across generations,” Senator Ikpea said.

He called on governments, communities, parents and other stakeholders to continue working together to strengthen the education system and ensure that teachers receive the recognition, support and respect commensurate with the enormous responsibility they carry.

Senator Ikpea expressed appreciation to teachers across Edo Central for their invaluable service, describing them as partners in building a knowledgeable, responsible, productive and prosperous society.

He wished all teachers in Edo Central, Edo State and Nigeria a happy and fulfilling International Teachers’ Day, assuring them that their dedication to shaping the future remains deeply valued and will continue to receive his support.
