Edo Government Clarifies Position, Welcomes Davido to the State

The Edo State Government has clarified that it has not placed any ban on popular Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, from entering or performing in the state.

The clarification followed reports suggesting that the artiste had been barred from Edo State. The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, Mnipr., described the purported ban as unauthorised and stated that the state government completely dissociates itself from such claims.

Afegbua reaffirmed Edo State’s reputation as a welcoming destination for people from across Nigeria and beyond, irrespective of their political affiliations, beliefs, backgrounds or associations.

According to him, Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration is committed to an inclusive approach to governance and maintains cordial relations with the various demographic groups within the state.

The commissioner also highlighted Davido’s connection to Edo through his maternal lineage, describing the award-winning artiste as one of Nigeria’s illustrious sons who has continued to promote the country on the global stage through his music.

He said the Edo State Government would gladly welcome Davido whenever he chooses to visit and would be open to collaborating with him should he decide to stage a performance in the state.

Afegbua explained that developments surrounding Davido and the recent political activities in Osun State were matters of political contestation and should not be interpreted as a personal disagreement between the artiste and the Edo State Government.

He praised Davido for his achievements in the Nigerian and international music industry, describing him as a global ambassador who has contributed significantly to Nigeria’s cultural diplomacy and helped build bridges across different social and political divides.

The commissioner further expressed optimism that the singer would be recognised with a Grammy Award in the future, noting that his accomplishments have continued to bring pride to Nigeria.

The Edo State Government consequently urged the public to disregard any contrary claims regarding Davido’s access to the state, reaffirming its commitment to hospitality, inclusiveness and peaceful coexistence.
