The Edo State Government has assured the family of late Independent Television and Radio (ITV) Government House Correspondent, Mr. Kingsley Uchegbu, of its commitment to providing the necessary support to help cushion the impact of his sudden death.
Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, gave the assurance during a condolence visit to the residence of the deceased in Benin City, where a high-powered delegation from Government House met with the widow, Mrs. Chineyeamara Uchegbu, and other family members.
The delegation, led by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Yakubu Musa, conveyed the governor’s heartfelt condolences and solidarity with the bereaved family during the difficult period.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, described the late journalist as a dedicated, humble, and committed professional whose service and character earned him admiration among colleagues and government officials alike.
According to him, the Edo State Government would stand by the family and ensure that they receive the needed support to navigate the painful loss of their breadwinner.
“Madam, we are here on behalf of the governor to assure you that you and your children will not be left alone in this difficult moment. The government will be part of the process that will bring succour and support to the family,” he said.
Afegbua noted that the late Kingsley Uchegbu distinguished himself through hard work, resilience, and professionalism, stressing that his dedication to duty remained exemplary throughout his career.
“We are consoled by the fact that nobody here can speak ill of Kingsley. He was a good man, humble, dedicated, committed, and lived a simple life. The distance he travelled daily to carry out his responsibilities showed remarkable dedication and resilience,” he added.
He further encouraged the widow to remain strong for the sake of her children, noting that they would continue the legacy their father left behind.
Responding on behalf of the family, a senior elder of Winners Chapel, Dr. Magnus Oshiogwe, appreciated Governor Okpebholo for the prompt intervention and compassion shown to the family through the visit.
He described the late journalist as a committed church member and responsible family man whose passing has left both the family and church community in deep grief.
“We appreciate the governor for this gesture and for demonstrating genuine concern for the people. Whatever support the government can extend to this family will go a long way in easing their pains,” Oshiogwe stated.
He also disclosed that the death of the veteran journalist had thrown his children and loved ones into emotional distress, adding that the family remained grateful for the show of solidarity from the Edo State Government.
Until his death on Wednesday, May 7, 2026, following a brief illness, Kingsley Uchegbu served as a staff member of Independent Television and Radio and was attached to the Edo State Government House Press Unit.
He is survived by his wife, children, and aged mother.
Members of the delegation included the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Ken Ihensekhien; Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua; Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele; Special Adviser to the Governor on Electronic Media, Paul Ezenwa; as well as members of the Government House Press Corps.
The condolence visit was formally conveyed in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele, whose office reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to standing with families of public servants who devoted themselves to service.
