A baby allegedly stolen from its biological mother at birth and later sold has been rescued by operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) of the Nigeria Police Force following a coordinated investigation spanning multiple states.

The development was disclosed by social commentator and activist , popularly known as VDM, who revealed that the child’s mother first reported the incident at the MVOI office on April 25, 2026.

According to the account, the distraught mother narrated how her baby was allegedly taken from her shortly after delivery and subsequently trafficked. Following the complaint, she was immediately escorted to the STS Police Station in Guzape, Abuja, where the matter was presented to the Commander of STS, .

The STS Commander reportedly took immediate interest in the case and ordered the commencement of a full-scale investigation. A formal petition was subsequently prepared and forwarded to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Department (FID) for approval.

Following the approval, a team of STS operatives was deployed to on April 26, where a suspect connected to the alleged child trafficking operation was arrested.

The suspect was thereafter transported to on April 27 for further interrogation. During questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed that a lawyer had paid the sum of ₦4.5 million for the child.

Acting on the information obtained during the interrogation, STS operatives extended the investigation to , where the lawyer identified in the case was reportedly apprehended. The baby was subsequently rescued during the operation.

Authorities confirmed that all parties connected to the case were later brought back to Abuja as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction and sale of the child.

Preparations are reportedly underway for the formal reunification and handover of the rescued baby to the biological mother after the completion of the necessary administrative and legal procedures.

The case has drawn widespread public attention, with many commending the swift intervention and inter-state coordination demonstrated by the STS operatives in the course of the investigation.
