Benin City, Edo State — May 3, 2026
Residents of Charismatic Road, located off Ekhenwan Road in Benin City, have expressed widespread commendation for Governor Monday Okpebholo following significant progress on the ongoing road reconstruction project, now nearing completion.
During a Sunday evening inspection tour of key infrastructure projects across Edo South Senatorial District, Governor Okpebholo was met with enthusiastic approval from community members who gathered in notable numbers to acknowledge the transformation of the once flood-prone area.
The Charismatic Road project is currently estimated at approximately 90 percent completion. The initial segment of the road has been constructed with reinforced concrete, while the remaining stretch has been finished with asphalt. Complementary drainage infrastructure has been fully executed, including the construction of two strategically positioned water retention ponds designed to mitigate flooding and enhance durability.
Residents who spoke during the inspection highlighted the tangible impact of the project, particularly in addressing long-standing environmental and accessibility challenges.
Chief Joseph Amadasun, a resident who relocated from Lagos four years ago, underscored the significance of the intervention, noting a marked improvement in flood control following recent rainfall.
“This area used to experience severe flooding, but after the recent rains, there was no water intrusion into homes, and the road remained completely dry. This is a remarkable turnaround. The quality of work reflects strong commitment and effective leadership,” he stated.
Another resident, Aliyu, emphasized the historical challenges associated with the road, especially during the rainy season, describing the current state as a complete transformation.
“For years, this road was nearly impassable whenever it rained. What we are seeing now is a total change. The difference is clear and impactful,” he said.
Mrs. Enoch also expressed appreciation for the durability and usability of the newly constructed road, noting that the improved surface and drainage have restored confidence in daily movement within the area.
“Previously, movement here after rainfall was extremely difficult. Now, the road is dry, stable, and clearly built to last. This is a major relief for residents,” she remarked.
As part of the inspection exercise, Governor Okpebholo also visited Sapele Road to assess the pace and quality of ongoing construction work. He made a brief stop at the Christ Embassy Camp Ground, where he reviewed drainage installations to ensure adherence to engineering standards and project specifications.
The near-completion of Charismatic Road stands as a visible milestone in the administration’s broader infrastructure renewal agenda, reflecting a targeted approach to addressing urban mobility, flood management, and community development within Edo State.
