Former Etsako West Council Chairman, Marvelous Muhizu Zibiri Resigns from Peoples Democratic Party
Urbanscopnews reporting
The immediate past Chairman of Etsako West Local Government Area in Edo State, Hon. Marvelous Muhizu Zibiri, has formally announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a letter dated March 8, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of the party in Ward 8, Anwain, the former council boss said his decision to quit the party takes immediate effect.
Zibiri explained that his resignation followed extensive introspection, consultations, and reflection on his political journey within the party, where he previously served as Executive Chairman of Etsako West Local Government Area.
According to the letter, the former council chairman expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunities it gave him to develop politically and contribute to governance.
“I write to formally tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately,” the letter stated.
He noted that while he remains grateful for the platform the party provided him to grow as a politician and refine his leadership abilities, developments within the party had made his continued membership untenable.
Zibiri cited persistent internal disputes, what he described as the “balkanization” of the party structure, inability of party leaders to foster unity, deviation from its founding ideals, and recurring legal disputes as key factors influencing his decision to step aside.
He further expressed concern over what he described as sustained internal conflicts and the frequent recourse to litigation within the party, which he said had undermined cohesion and stability.
Despite his departure, the former council chairman acknowledged the role the PDP played in shaping his political career and expressed hope that the party would rebuild itself on the foundations of unity, internal democracy, and renewed dedication to public service.
“As I depart, I do so with immense respect for the party’s role in shaping my political career, and I wish the PDP a stronger future built on unity, internal democracy, and a renewed commitment to serving the people,” he stated.
Zibiri also used the opportunity to sympathize with some of his former colleagues whom he said had endured various forms of pressure and harassment within the political space during previous administrative periods, urging them to remain steadfast as they navigate the challenges ahead.
He concluded the letter by expressing gratitude to party leaders, members, and associates who supported him throughout his years of political engagement.
Hon. Zibiri’s resignation adds to the evolving political dynamics within Edo State, where alignments and realignments among political actors continue to shape the state’s political landscape ahead of future electoral contests.
