Senator Joseph Igiagbe Ikpea has commended Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for what he described as a decisive and people-focused intervention to strengthen security across Edo Central Senatorial District, following the deployment of new patrol vehicles and the introduction of an enhanced welfare package for security operatives.
Speaking in reaction to the security engagement held in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area, Senator Ikpea praised the Governor’s proactive leadership and clear commitment to restoring peace and stability in Esanland. He noted that the initiative reflects a deep understanding of the security challenges at the grassroots and a willingness to address them with practical solutions.
“Governor Okpebholo has once again demonstrated strong political will and genuine concern for the safety of our people. The provision of patrol vehicles and the approval of welfare packages for security personnel are critical steps that will significantly improve response time, morale and operational efficiency across Edo Central,” Senator Ikpea stated.
The Senator emphasized that security remains the foundation for sustainable development, stressing that no meaningful economic or social progress can be achieved in an atmosphere of fear and instability. He reaffirmed his full support for the Okpebholo-led administration and pledged to continue partnering with the state government in the fight against crime and criminality in Esanland.
According to Senator Ikpea, the Governor’s decision to engage directly with security agencies, traditional rulers and community leaders underscores an inclusive and intelligence-driven approach to tackling insecurity. He described the interactive session as a model for collaborative governance, where community input is translated into actionable policy decisions.
He further lauded the Governor’s directive for the profiling and formal enlistment of Edo State Security Corps members, hunters and anti-cultism operatives across the 18 local government areas, noting that structured integration and regular remuneration would professionalize local security operations and enhance accountability.
“The approval of salaries for our security operatives is not only a morale booster but a recognition of the risks they take daily to protect lives and property. When security personnel are properly equipped and motivated, the entire society benefits,” he added.
Senator Ikpea also welcomed the integration of over 2,500 newly trained security corps personnel into the existing security framework, describing it as a strategic expansion that will strengthen grassroots surveillance and intelligence gathering in Edo Central and beyond.
Calling on residents of Esanland to complement government efforts, the Senator urged community members to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities promptly.
“Security is a collective responsibility. I encourage our people to continue to support the Governor and work hand in hand with security agencies to ensure that Edo Central remains safe for all,” he said.
Senator Ikpea concluded by reaffirming his confidence in Governor Okpebholo’s leadership, expressing optimism that the sustained focus on security, welfare and community partnership will usher in lasting peace and stability across Edo State.
