The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Ayewoh Ambrose Oyakhilome, has felicitated Muslim faithful across Edo State and beyond on the occasion of Eid-el-Maulud, calling for renewed commitment to peace, unity, compassion and responsible citizenship.
In a goodwill message marking the celebration, Oyakhilome extended warm greetings to the Muslim community, urging the faithful to draw inspiration from the exemplary virtues of Prophet Muhammad, particularly his teachings on tolerance, humility, justice, compassion and peaceful coexistence.
He noted that these values remain essential to building a peaceful and progressive society, stressing that education must continue to serve as a foundation for nurturing responsible citizens and strengthening social cohesion.
The SUBEB Chairman reaffirmed his commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to advance the vision of the Edo State Government for a sustainable, inclusive and quality basic education system that provides every child, irrespective of background or location, with the opportunity to learn, develop and fulfil their potential.
Oyakhilome said the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo has demonstrated a clear commitment to repositioning the education sector through investments in teaching and learning materials, school infrastructure, teacher development and initiatives designed to improve educational outcomes across the State.
Under the Governor’s SHINE Agenda, education remains a critical pillar of the State Government’s human capital development strategy, with emphasis on creating an enabling environment where children can acquire the knowledge, skills and values required to contribute meaningfully to the development of Edo State. The administration has, among other interventions, supported the distribution of teaching and learning materials and strengthened school monitoring mechanisms.
Oyakhilome further assured that SUBEB, under his leadership, would continue to support the State Government’s education agenda by promoting effective school administration, quality teaching, improved learning environments and policies that place the child at the centre of basic education delivery.
He called on Muslim faithful to use the occasion of Eid-el-Maulud to renew their commitment to peaceful coexistence, community development and support for initiatives that promote the welfare and education of children.
The SUBEB Chairman also urged parents, teachers, traditional and religious leaders, development partners and other stakeholders to strengthen their collaboration with government, noting that sustainable educational development requires collective responsibility.
He wished Muslim faithful a peaceful and fulfilling Eid-el-Maulud celebration, expressing confidence that the collective commitment of government and citizens would continue to move Edo State towards a stronger, more inclusive and sustainable education system.
The appointment of Oyakhilome as SUBEB Executive Chairman followed his previous service as Executive Chairman of the Edo State Rural Access Roads Agency (RARA), where the State Government said his experience in public administration and programme implementation would be brought to bear on efforts to enhance education quality and learning outcomes across Edo State.
