Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has called on leaders, members and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo Central Senatorial District to close ranks, strengthen party unity and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Okpebholo made the appeal during a series of interactive engagements with APC stakeholders, party faithful and various support groups in Esan Central Local Government Area, describing unity, loyalty and collective commitment as the bedrock of the party’s continued electoral success.
The meetings, held at the Governor’s residence and the Okaijesan Town Hall in Irrua, formed part of ongoing consultations aimed at consolidating the APC’s political structure, addressing concerns of party members and galvanising support ahead of the July 11, 2026 local government elections and the 2027 presidential poll.
Among those in attendance were APC chairmanship candidates for the forthcoming local government elections, alongside the party’s 51 councillorship candidates drawn from the five local government areas that make up Edo Central Senatorial District.
The Governor also met separately with members of the Esan Central Bike/Keke Riders Association, the Edo Women Ambassadors for Renewed Hope Agenda (EWARHA), Edo Central Chapter, as well as members of the Arewa community resident in the district.
The high-level political gathering attracted several prominent APC leaders and government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor, Esq.; Senatorial Leader, General Cecil Esekhaigbe (Rtd.); former Speakers of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Thomas Okosun, Rt. Hon. Justin Okonoboh and Rt. Hon. Victor Edoro; former Senator Clifford Ordia; as well as other respected party leaders and stakeholders.
Addressing party members, Governor Okpebholo stressed the importance of reconciliation, inclusiveness and teamwork, urging members to set aside personal interests in favour of the collective progress of the APC.
“Politics is about give and take. I convened this meeting because I wanted to reconnect with many party faithful I have not seen for a long time. This is a moment for sincerity, honesty and renewed commitment. Your presence here is a clear demonstration of your support for our administration and our great party,” the Governor stated.
Expressing confidence in the APC’s electoral prospects, Governor Okpebholo declared that Edo State would deliver overwhelming support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, citing the administration’s developmental initiatives and economic reforms as evidence of purposeful leadership.
According to him, the rehabilitation of the Ekpoma-Ehor Road by the Federal Government has significantly improved transportation, enhanced commercial activities and boosted socio-economic development within the state.
The Governor further defended the Federal Government’s removal of fuel subsidy, describing it as a bold but necessary economic reform designed to free up resources for critical infrastructure and national development.
During his engagement with transport operators, Governor Okpebholo assured them of his administration’s continued support while urging them to remain active partners in advancing the APC’s electoral objectives across Edo State.
He also disclosed to members of the Edo Women Ambassadors for Renewed Hope Agenda (EWARHA) that Nigeria’s First Lady would soon visit Edo State to launch an empowerment programme that would provide business support loans to women, further strengthening economic opportunities and improving livelihoods.
Speaking at the event, the APC Deputy State Chairman, Sylvester Aigboboh, charged party members to remain steadfast in their support for Governor Okpebholo’s administration and work collectively towards securing victory in the forthcoming local government elections and the 2027 general elections.
He maintained that sustaining the APC’s political leadership remained essential to consolidating ongoing developmental strides across critical sectors of Edo State’s economy.
The details of the Governor’s engagements were made available in an official statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele, who noted that the meetings underscored the administration’s commitment to strengthening party cohesion, expanding grassroots participation and positioning the APC for sustained electoral success across Edo State.
