Excitement is building across Benin City as the Ramat Park Flyover moves closer to completion, with Governor Monday Okpebholo announcing that the landmark infrastructure project is expected to be commissioned in November.
The governor made the announcement on Wednesday after inspecting the ongoing construction works at the project site, where he expressed satisfaction with both the quality of work and the pace of execution.
Speaking to journalists, Governor Okpebholo said the project had made significant progress beyond the flyover itself, highlighting the accompanying road network, stormwater drainage infrastructure, and the ongoing transformation of the surrounding environment.
“We have gone round to see how far the construction of the Ramat Park Flyover has progressed. Apart from the flyover, the road network within the area is equally commendable.
“This place is now more beautiful than it was before. We are also making serious progress in the stormwater drainage system around the facility.
“We are hoping that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will commission this project in November as part of activities marking my second anniversary in office.
“By then, the park should also be ready, making this entire area a beautiful destination. It is already becoming a tourist attraction. You can see how excited the children and residents are. They are happy and having fun, and that is the essence of governance,” the governor said.
Governor Okpebholo also commended the Federal Government’s fuel subsidy removal policy, noting that the resulting increase in statutory allocations had strengthened the financial capacity of state governments to undertake critical infrastructure projects and meet their obligations to citizens.
Providing an update on the engineering works, the Project Manager, Li Jianshou, disclosed that the flyover had reached more than 95 percent completion.
According to him, the outstanding components include the installation of street lighting, expansion of adjoining junctions, road markings, and final painting of the bridge. He expressed confidence that the project would be completed in time for its scheduled commissioning in November.
The governor’s visit attracted enthusiastic residents and traders, many of whom lined the project corridor to welcome him and express appreciation for what they described as a transformative development.
Mrs. Queen Ehanire, a resident of the area, said the project had significantly enhanced the aesthetics of Ikpoba Hill while restoring confidence among residents and business owners.
“Benin is more beautiful today than it was in previous years. Governor Okpebholo has done remarkably well with this project,” she said.
Another resident, Mr. James Osaigbovo, said the completed flyover would stimulate economic activities by attracting more visitors and improving accessibility to businesses within the area.
Similarly, commercial driver Mr. David Uwadia expressed optimism that the redesigned Ramat Park and the completed flyover would ease traffic congestion and improve transportation around one of Benin City’s busiest intersections.
The Ramat Park Flyover is one of the flagship infrastructure projects of the Okpebholo administration and is expected to improve traffic flow, enhance urban mobility, strengthen flood control through upgraded drainage infrastructure, and contribute to the ongoing modernization of Benin City.
Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, disclosed the details of the governor’s inspection and the project’s progress in a statement issued on Wednesday, June 18, 2026.
