Illeh in Esan West LGA was a sea of white and gold yesterday as sons, daughters, and dignitaries from across Nigeria converged to celebrate a living monument — Elder Jackson Emuan Aigboboh, who clocked 94 years with strength, sound mind, and the dignity that only a life well-lived commands.
This was not just a birthday party. It was a thanksgiving to God. A celebration of a father whose hands built a home that produced political and industrial giants whose names now trend across Edo State and beyond.
At the heart of the celebration stood one of his illustrious sons, Hon. Sylvester Aigboboh — Vice Chairman, APC Edo State and Personal Assistant to the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo. Around him gathered a roll call of leaders: political office holders, captains of industry, traditional rulers, clergy, market women, and youth groups. All came for one reason: to honor the root.
Esan News Magazine was on ground to witness this greatness.
The venue spoke Esan pride. Canopies draped in white and gold, chairs adorned with royal fabric, cultural calabashes on display, and tables set with elegance. Women shone in coordinated aso-ebi. Chiefs sat in majesty. The sound of drums, prayers, and heartfelt testimonies filled the air.
Speakers traced the journey of the celebrant with deep reverence. Pa Aigboboh was a military teacher in the 1950s and 1960s, a man who instilled discipline in a generation of young Nigerians at a critical time in our history. After service, he took that same discipline to the classroom, teaching in schools across Esan land, including the famous Annunciation Catholic College, ACC Irrua, where he helped mold minds that would later lead in different fields.
He was described as a disciplinarian, a man of faith, a community builder, and a father who raised children to fear God, love Esan, and serve humanity.
“Look at the fruits,” one elder thundered. “Vice Chairman of APC in Edo State. Personal Assistant to the Governor. Business owners. Community leaders. This is what happens when a father plants the right seed in the classroom and at home.”
Hon. Sylvester Aigboboh, in a voice choked with emotion, gave glory to God for his father’s life. “My father taught us integrity, hard work, and loyalty to our people. The chalk and the uniform he wore as a teacher are the same values he brought to our home. Every door that has opened for us today is because of the prayers and training he gave us,” he said.
Prayers went up for more years in health and wisdom. Gifts, dances, and royal blessings followed. Dignitaries from all walks of life took turns to celebrate the patriarch, describing him as “Esan’s pride, Illeh’s treasure, and a teacher of teachers.”
At 94, Elder Jackson Emuan Aigboboh stands as proof that true greatness is not in titles, but in the children and values you leave behind. From the barracks to the classroom, and now to the council of elders, his life has produced leaders in politics and industry — men and women who are now shaping decisions that affect Edo and Nigeria.
As the celebration drew to a close, one truth echoed across Illeh: When a father builds with truth, the impact crosses generations.
Esan is proud. Illeh is blessed. And the name Aigboboh will continue to shine.
