Nigeria Does Not Belong to Kidnappers, Says Governor Okpebholo

Kingsley Ohens reporting

Benin City, Edo State — Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has declared that Nigeria will not be surrendered to kidnappers and other criminal elements, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening security and restoring public confidence across the country.

The governor made the declaration on Sunday during a worship service at LoveWorld City (Christ Embassy) in Benin City, where he joined congregants in prayers for national peace, security, economic recovery, and effective leadership.

Addressing the congregation, Governor Okpebholo called for sustained prayers against kidnapping, cultism, and other criminal activities threatening the safety and well-being of citizens. He also urged Nigerians to continue supporting efforts aimed at promoting unity, stability, and national development.

“This country does not belong to kidnappers,” the governor stated. “No individual or group should hold the nation captive for personal or political interests. With collective determination, effective governance, and the prayers of God’s people, we will overcome these challenges.”

The governor expressed concern over the growing incidents of kidnapping in some parts of the country, particularly as political activities begin to intensify ahead of future elections. He, however, expressed confidence that through collaboration among security agencies, government institutions, community stakeholders, and faith-based organizations, the menace would be effectively addressed.

Governor Okpebholo further appealed to the church to offer prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, seeking divine wisdom, strength, and guidance for the nation’s leader as he navigates economic reforms and governance challenges.

According to him, prayers for Nigeria’s progress would naturally translate into peace, stability, and prosperity for Edo State and the wider federation.

Leading the special intercessory session, Pastor Moses Olayemi prayed for divine protection, peace, economic restoration, and spiritual renewal across Nigeria. He also sought God’s guidance for national and sub-national leaders in their efforts to improve the lives of citizens.

Pastor Olayemi commended Governor Okpebholo for ongoing infrastructural development across Edo State, particularly in the area of road construction and rehabilitation, noting that residents are already witnessing positive changes in various communities.

“We appreciate the transformation taking place across the state. The roads and other projects are improving daily, and we commend your efforts. May God grant you the resources and strength to complete what you have started,” he said.

The visit forms part of Governor Okpebholo’s broader engagement with faith-based institutions and community stakeholders in promoting peace, security, and sustainable development across Edo State.

The statement was issued by Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State.
