Gov Okpebholo Assures New IGP of Stronger Security Collaboration as Disu Visits Edo Government House

Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has assured the newly appointed Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, of the Edo State Government’s continued support and stronger collaboration in efforts to enhance security across the state.

The assurance was given on Friday when the new police chief paid a courtesy visit to the Government House in Benin City alongside a high-powered delegation of senior police officers, including the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 5, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, and the AIG of the Nigeria Police Mobile Force.

Speaking during the meeting, Governor Okpebholo congratulated the IGP on his appointment as the 23rd indigenous Inspector General of Police of Nigeria, describing him as a seasoned and professional officer whose rise to the top rank of the police force was earned through competence, discipline, and dedication to duty.

The governor commended the IGP for his professionalism during the period surrounding the Edo governorship election, recalling his conduct during critical moments before the election.

According to Governor Okpebholo, the police boss demonstrated exceptional professionalism and maturity in handling sensitive situations, noting that such conduct helped maintain order and prevented possible harassment or tension.

He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force and called for deeper cooperation between the state government and security agencies to sustain peace and stability in Edo State.

Governor Okpebholo also praised officers deployed to Edo State, noting their dedication and sacrifices in protecting lives and property across the state.

Earlier, Inspector General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu stated that his visit to Edo State was part of efforts to interact with officers and men of the Edo State Police Command and to appreciate the governor for the support his administration has continued to provide to security agencies operating in the state.

The IGP commended Governor Okpebholo for fulfilling commitments made toward improving security operations and welfare support for police personnel in Edo State.

He emphasized that effective policing requires collective participation, stressing that security remains the responsibility of both law enforcement agencies and the public.

According to him, the Nigeria Police Force is intensifying efforts toward community policing, intelligent policing, and policing by consent as part of strategies aimed at strengthening public trust and improving security nationwide.

The police chief also disclosed that commissioners of police across the country have been directed to make their phone numbers publicly accessible to residents to encourage communication, accountability, and community engagement.

Governor Okpebholo received the delegation in the company of the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa; the Chief of Staff, Hon. Yakubu Musa JP; the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua; and retired General Cecil Esekhaigbe.
