Security Forces Storm Edo Forest Hideout, Arrest Kidnapping Suspects in Coordinated Raid

Kingsley Ohens reporting

A coordinated security operation involving the Edo State Special Security Squad, the Edo State Security Corps, and the Nigeria Police Force has led to the arrest of two suspected kidnappers during a targeted raid on a forest hideout in Amah community, Etsako West.

The high-risk operation, executed on the strength of actionable intelligence, forms part of an intensified statewide crackdown on kidnapping and organized criminal networks. Security operatives reportedly mobilized from Eko-Waya community in Esan Central under the coordination of the Principal Security Officer, Saturday Okoh, before advancing into the forest enclave identified as a suspected operational base for a notorious syndicate.

According to the spokesperson of the Special Security Squad, Eribo Enwata, the mission was triggered by credible intelligence indicating that a suspected kingpin, identified only as “Best,” had been orchestrating kidnapping operations from the remote hideout.

“We received a tip-off regarding the activities of a suspected mastermind operating within this forest corridor. While two suspects have been apprehended, the principal suspect remains at large and has been declared wanted,” Enwata disclosed.

Preliminary findings from the raid revealed the presence of items believed to be linked to criminal activity, including charms and military-style uniforms—materials often associated with attempts to evade detection or instill fear during operations.

Security officials further indicated that the arrested individuals, who reportedly migrated from other parts of the country, confessed to being recruited by the fugitive suspect. Investigators are expected to leverage this development to dismantle the broader network and trace its operational logistics.

Also speaking, Zonal Commander of the Edo State Security Corps, Joel Aidamebor, alleged that the wanted suspect had been instrumental in facilitating the movement and settlement of kidnapping operatives into forested areas across the state, thereby establishing a decentralized network of criminal cells.

The security architecture has since escalated efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect, while plans are underway to demolish the identified hideout to prevent its reuse for illicit activities.

Authorities have reiterated a zero-tolerance posture toward kidnapping and violent crime, aligning with the policy direction of the Edo State Government under Governor Monday Okpebholo. The administration has consistently emphasized proactive intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, and community-based vigilance as critical pillars of its security strategy.

Residents and community leaders have been urged to strengthen local surveillance and maintain open communication with security agencies. Officials stress that timely intelligence sharing remains indispensable in sustaining recent operational gains and ensuring long-term public safety across Edo State.
