The Governor of Edo State, on Thursday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to structured, youth-driven political engagement, declaring that only leaders with deep urban experience can effectively organise and brand a modern city.
Speaking at the Government House in Benin City while receiving the leadership of the , the governor underscored the importance of coordinated grassroots mobilisation in strengthening governance and shaping national development.
The delegation, led by its Grand Patron, , included the Minister of State for Youth Development, , and the Director-General of the movement, .
Okpebholo commended the group for commencing its South-South regional tour in Edo State, describing the decision as a reflection of the state’s rising prominence in national political dynamics.
“You have not made a mistake coming to the South-South and choosing Edo State. I am happy to receive you,” the governor said, noting that the movement’s organisational structure and leadership-driven approach signal a promising direction for youth participation in governance.
The governor further used the occasion to reaffirm his support for President , endorsing his bid for a second term in office. He praised the president’s policy direction, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, describing it as a decisive step toward long-term economic stability.
“What others could not do, Asiwaju has done. Without chaos, he took that bold decision, and today the country is already positioning itself for greater economic stability and growth,” Okpebholo stated.
Reiterating Edo State’s political stance, the governor said the state had firmly aligned with the president’s continuity agenda.
“For us in Edo, the decision is clear — we have already endorsed him for a second term. We are proud to align with a movement that reflects vision, structure, and purpose,” he added.
He also emphasised his administration’s focus on youth empowerment, noting that sustainable development depends on enabling young people to contribute meaningfully through innovation, leadership, and active civic participation.
Earlier, Minister Olawande said the City Boy Movement was established to bridge the gap between leadership and young Nigerians, while ensuring their strategic inclusion in governance and nation-building processes. He explained that the South-South tour, beginning in Edo State, aims to mobilise and inspire youth engagement across the region.
Other officials present at the meeting included the Deputy Governor, ; the Secretary to the State Government, ; the Head of Service, ; and the APC State Chairman, , among others.
The visit marks a significant milestone in the movement’s nationwide mobilisation drive, positioning Edo State as a strategic hub for advancing youth inclusion in governance.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, , the engagement was described as a key step in strengthening collaboration between leadership and the next generation of Nigerians, while reinforcing the administration’s commitment to structured political participation.
