Chelsea Football Club have parted ways with head coach Liam Rosenior following a sharp and sustained collapse in results that left the club’s season in disarray and triggered urgent action from the Stamford Bridge hierarchy.
The decision, confirmed on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, comes after a damaging sequence of performances that saw Chelsea lose five consecutive Premier League matches without scoring a goal and win just once in their last eight games across all competitions. The run of poor form effectively ended any realistic hopes of securing Champions League qualification and intensified pressure on the club’s leadership structure.
Rosenior’s final match in charge ended in a 3–0 defeat to Brighton, a result that exposed Chelsea’s ongoing attacking struggles and defensive instability. The performance was widely viewed as the tipping point for the club’s decision-makers, who had been monitoring the downward trajectory in form over several weeks.
Appointed only months earlier on a long-term deal, Rosenior initially generated optimism with a promising start and a brief unbeaten spell. However, momentum quickly faded as the team’s attacking output deteriorated and confidence drained from the squad. Chelsea’s inability to score during their losing streak became a defining feature of the crisis, with the club registering one of its worst goal droughts in over a century.
In an official statement, Chelsea acknowledged that recent performances had fallen “far below the required standards” expected at the club. The statement confirmed that an interim coaching arrangement has been put in place while a full managerial review is underway.
Calum McFarlane has been appointed as interim head coach and will take charge of first-team duties for the remainder of the season, including upcoming domestic fixtures and cup commitments.
Rosenior’s departure marks yet another managerial reset in Chelsea’s ongoing search for stability, with the club now expected to begin a structured process to identify a permanent successor capable of restoring consistency, identity, and competitive edge at Stamford Bridge.
