Abuja, April 16, 2026 — The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to upgrading infrastructure across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, underscoring its resolve to strengthen the education sector and create an enabling environment for academic excellence, research, and institutional expansion.
This assurance was given during a high-level meeting in Abuja between the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, and a delegation from Federal University Dutse (FUD), Jigawa State. The delegation presented critical infrastructure challenges currently constraining the university’s growth and operational efficiency.
Among the key concerns highlighted were the acute shortage of student accommodation, inadequate and unreliable power supply, as well as deficiencies in internal road networks and water distribution systems. These infrastructural gaps, the delegation noted, have continued to hinder the institution’s expansion plans and its ability to meet the increasing demand for higher education.
In response, the Minister acknowledged the urgency of the issues raised and emphasized the Federal Government’s strategic focus on revitalizing public infrastructure within the education sector. He noted that improving access to quality infrastructure remains central to the administration’s broader development agenda, particularly in ensuring that federal universities are adequately equipped to deliver on their mandates.
The meeting also explored collaborative pathways for addressing the identified challenges, including phased infrastructure development and alignment with ongoing federal works and education initiatives. The Minister assured the delegation that the concerns of Federal University Dutse would receive due attention, with efforts directed toward accelerating interventions that will support both immediate needs and long-term institutional growth.
The Federal Government’s renewed commitment reflects a sustained policy direction aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s tertiary education system through targeted infrastructure investments, with institutions such as Federal University Dutse expected to benefit from ongoing and future development programmes.
