BENIN CITY — Dr. Ernest Iyere Ahamioje, President and Founder of the Dr. Ernest Iyere Ahamioje Project Initiative and former Edo State House of Assembly hopeful for Esan South East Constituency, has congratulated Rt. Hon. Yekini Idiaye on his emergence as the new Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Idiaye, who represents Akoko-Edo Constituency I, emerged Speaker during plenary on Monday, August 17, 2026, following the resignation of Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku. The new Speaker is a third-term legislator and a former Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.
In his congratulatory message, Dr. Ahamioje described the emergence of Idiaye as a significant moment for Edo State, expressing confidence that the new leadership of the House would bring renewed energy, purposeful legislation and stronger institutional collaboration in the interest of the people.
According to him, the Speakership comes with an enormous responsibility to uphold the dignity of the legislature, promote constructive engagement among lawmakers and ensure that legislative activities remain firmly focused on the development and wellbeing of Edo citizens.
“A new chapter has opened, a greater responsibility has been entrusted to a new leader, and a stronger Edo must remain the ultimate objective.
“I warmly congratulate Rt. Hon. Yekini Idiaye on his emergence as Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly. This is not merely a change of leadership; it is an opportunity to strengthen the legislative institution, deepen democratic values and advance laws and policies that will positively impact the lives of our people,” Ahamioje stated.
He further urged the new Speaker to lead with humility, courage, fairness and an unwavering commitment to the collective interest of Edo State, while encouraging all members of the Assembly to work together across political and constituency lines for the greater good.
Dr. Ahamioje also expressed optimism that the new leadership would foster a productive working relationship with the executive arm of government, while maintaining the constitutional independence and oversight responsibilities of the legislature.
He called on the people of Edo State to support the new leadership and give the Assembly the necessary goodwill to discharge its constitutional responsibilities effectively.
“Leadership is an opportunity to serve, and the people of Edo expect nothing less than purposeful, transparent and people-oriented representation. I am confident that Rt. Hon. Idiaye will rise to the occasion and justify the confidence reposed in him by his colleagues,” he added.
Dr. Ernest Iyere Ahamioje, who has consistently advocated youth participation, community development and progressive leadership through his initiative, prayed for wisdom, strength and discernment for the new Speaker as he assumes the responsibilities of steering the affairs of the Edo State House of Assembly.
