Okpebholo Committed to Improving the Lives of Edo People, Says NEC Monitoring Committee

The National Economic Council (NEC) Implementation Monitoring Committee (IMC) has commended Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for what it described as his unwavering commitment to improving the quality of life of Edo people through impactful infrastructure and people-centred development initiatives.

The commendation came on Tuesday during an inspection tour of key legacy projects being executed by the Okpebholo administration across the state. The delegation, led by Mrs. Busayo Awotunde, was accompanied by the Edo State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Elizabeth Ebosele, who guided the team through several strategic projects implemented in line with resolutions of the National Economic Council.

Speaking after the tour, Awotunde expressed admiration for the pace and scale of development recorded by the administration, noting that the achievements were remarkable for a government that has been in office for less than two years.

“To say I am impressed would be an understatement. For a government that is barely two years old to have accomplished so much demonstrates a clear commitment to improving the lives of Edo people.

“We will report that the Edo State Government is fully committed to and aligned with the National Economic Council’s objective of improving the livelihoods of citizens. The state has not only invested significant resources but has also shown genuine dedication to ensuring that the resolutions of the Council translate into tangible benefits for the people,” she said.

Providing insights into the inspection exercise, Dr. Ebosele explained that the monitoring visit was designed to evaluate the implementation of projects linked to NEC resolutions rather than serve as a fault-finding mission.

She highlighted the ongoing Ramat Park Flyover as one of the administration’s signature infrastructure projects, describing it as a strategic intervention aimed at easing traffic congestion, enhancing mobility, and stimulating economic activities within Benin City.

According to her, the project is nearing completion and is expected to be inaugurated soon.

“The flyover was conceived out of necessity to decongest traffic and improve the ease of doing business. Once completed, market women, traders, transport operators and residents will experience smoother movement, leading to increased commercial activities and improved economic opportunities.

“This vision of economic empowerment was among Governor Monday Okpebholo’s priorities upon assuming office. He promptly approved the project because of its strategic importance as it connects to the federal highway linking Edo State to the northern part of the country,” Ebosele stated.

Also speaking, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, thanked the NEC Implementation Monitoring Committee for its three-day assessment visit, noting that the administration’s developmental footprint was evident across the state.

He reaffirmed that Governor Okpebholo remained committed to delivering transformational projects simultaneously across Edo’s three senatorial districts, ensuring equitable development and inclusive governance.

The inspection visit forms part of the National Economic Council’s periodic monitoring mechanism aimed at evaluating the implementation of projects and programmes across states to ensure compliance with Council resolutions and the effective utilisation of public resources.
