Benin City, Edo State — In a significant step toward strengthening agricultural education and advancing sustainable economic development, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has signed into law the bill establishing the Edo State College of Agriculture, Science and Technology.
The new institution is expected to serve as a hub for innovation, research, and practical skills development in agriculture, science, and technology, equipping young people with the knowledge and expertise required to compete in a rapidly evolving global economy.
Governor Okpebholo said the establishment of the college reflects his administration’s commitment to repositioning agricultural education in line with international best practices while creating opportunities for youth empowerment, employment, and economic growth.
He noted that the institution will produce a new generation of skilled professionals capable of driving agricultural transformation, enhancing food production, promoting innovation, and supporting value-chain development across the state.
According to the governor, agriculture remains a strategic pillar of the administration’s SHINE Agenda, with sustained investments aimed at improving food security, expanding economic opportunities, and building a more productive and prosperous Edo State.
The signing of the bill marks another milestone in the government’s efforts to strengthen the state’s education sector while leveraging agriculture and technology as catalysts for inclusive development and long-term economic resilience.
