Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has extended warm felicitations to the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Benin City, Most Rev. Dr. Augustine Obiora Akubeze, on the occasion of his 20th Episcopal Anniversary, marked on April 22, 2026.
In a goodwill message issued through the Office of the Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele, PhD, the Governor described the milestone as a remarkable testament to Archbishop Akubeze’s enduring devotion to faith, disciplined service, and moral leadership over two decades of episcopal ministry.
Governor Okpebholo noted that since his consecration as Bishop in 2006, Archbishop Akubeze has consistently demonstrated exemplary pastoral leadership, contributing significantly to institutional growth, spiritual development, and community engagement within the Catholic Church and the wider society.
The Governor further acknowledged the Archbishop’s pioneering role as the first Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Uromi, as well as his elevation in 2011 as the Metropolitan Archbishop of Benin City, positions through which he has continued to provide steadfast spiritual guidance and leadership stability.
According to Governor Okpebholo, Archbishop Akubeze’s episcopal motto, “Ut Testimonium Perhibeam Veritati”—translated as “to bear witness to the truth”—aptly reflects a ministry anchored on integrity, discipline, and unwavering service to humanity.
He commended the Archbishop as a respected moral voice whose influence has continued to foster unity, strengthen social cohesion, and inspire positive values among the faithful and the broader Edo State community.
Governor Okpebholo joined the Catholic faithful, the Christian community, and well-wishers in celebrating the milestone, while offering prayers for continued divine guidance, good health, and renewed strength for Archbishop Akubeze in his service to the Church and society.
