A significant shift appears to be unfolding in the political landscape of Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State, following the formal declaration of Dr. Mike Eigbemekhe for the Edo State House of Assembly, Constituency II seat.
The declaration event, held on April 18, 2026, at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat in Uromi, transcended a routine political announcement, evolving instead into a high-energy gathering marked by optimism, party unity, and renewed grassroots enthusiasm. Party leaders, executives, and supporters described the moment as symbolic of a broader political recalibration anchored on equity, continuity, and performance.
At the heart of the discourse was strong alignment with the administration of Monday Okpebholo, whose governance agenda was repeatedly referenced as the benchmark for leadership and development in the state. Speakers emphasized that the progress recorded under the current administration must be safeguarded through the election of credible and dependable representatives at all levels.
In his address, Dr. Eigbemekhe positioned his candidacy as a direct extension of the governor’s development blueprint. He stated that his legislative priorities would be fully integrated with the administration’s strategic focus areas, including security enhancement, educational reform, infrastructure expansion, healthcare delivery, agricultural development, and environmental sustainability.
He further underscored his ideological alignment with the national policy direction encapsulated in the “Renewed Hope Agenda,” championed by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that effective governance at the state level requires synergy with federal priorities.
Framing the political moment as a defining one, Eigbemekhe argued that the electorate must move beyond sentiment-driven decisions and instead prioritize competence, loyalty, and proven capacity. According to him, sustainable development in Edo State hinges on electing leaders who are both ideologically consistent and administratively dependable.
The event also carried undertones of philosophical reflection, with references to enduring principles of justice and truth. Quotations attributed to Martin Luther King Jr. and Dele Giwa were invoked to reinforce the narrative that integrity and moral clarity remain essential pillars of political leadership.
Dr. Eigbemekhe concluded his remarks by expressing appreciation to party leaders for upholding fairness and inclusivity in the selection process. He assured constituents that, if elected, his role would be to consolidate the governor’s achievements while ensuring that people-oriented policies continue to deliver measurable impact at the grassroots level.
The declaration signals what observers within the party structure describe as a consolidation phase—one that prioritizes continuity, disciplined governance, and alignment with an overarching development agenda.
