At least five residents have been abducted by armed assailants in Odo-Ore, a rural community in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, following a late-night attack that has heightened security concerns in the area.

Residents reported that approximately ten gunmen stormed the community on Wednesday evening, firing sporadically to instill fear before carrying out the abductions. The incident, which occurred around 11:00 p.m., marks the first reported attack of its kind in the otherwise quiet settlement.

According to local sources, the attackers initially targeted the residence of Alhaji Yusuf Yunusa, a prominent politician and school proprietor. Witness accounts indicate that the gunmen forcibly gained entry into his compound by breaking through the gate and main door before abducting him at gunpoint. Yunusa, who also operates a private school in Lagos, had reportedly arrived in Odo-Ore earlier that day and was preparing to retire for the night when the incident occurred.

Four additional victims were said to have been abducted by the gunmen as they exited the community. The individuals are believed to be Hausa farmers residing and working in the area.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, suggested that the attackers may have acted on insider information. “They went straight to his residence without hesitation. It raises concerns about possible informants within the community,” the source said.

The attack has left residents in a state of fear, particularly given the absence of a functional police station or formal security presence in Odo-Ore. Community members have expressed growing anxiety over their vulnerability and the need for urgent government intervention.

A senior police officer at the Owu-Isin divisional headquarters confirmed the incident but did not provide further operational details. As of the time of filing this report, the Kwara State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement.

Security analysts have repeatedly emphasized the risks faced by underserved rural communities, where limited law enforcement infrastructure can create opportunities for criminal elements to operate with relative ease.

Authorities are expected to intensify efforts to locate the victims and apprehend those responsible, while residents continue to call for improved security deployment to prevent further incidents.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
