The Concerned Youth Alliance for National Development (CYAND), led by Convener Afolayan Timi, has strongly condemned recent remarks attributed to Hon. Patrick Aisowieren, Edo State representative at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), concerning the academic qualifications and personal history of Hon. Chief Dr. Billy Osawaru, Member representing Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde Federal Constituency.
CYAND described the remarks as unnecessary, inappropriate, and capable of diverting attention from the real issues of governance and development that affect the people of Orhionmwon and Uhunmwonde. The group emphasized that statements of a personal nature, particularly those touching on academic history, should be handled responsibly and based on verifiable evidence, not through public statements that risk inflaming political tension.
The group further clarified that the claims made against Hon. Billy Osawaru are false, baseless, and entirely unfounded. These allegations are a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and tarnish the reputation of a lawmaker with a proven track record of service and development.
CYAND observed that the reason for Patrick Aisowieren’s recent outburst appears tied to his own declining political influence. As a former member of the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2023, he never moved a motion, never sponsored a single bill, and his once-towering influence is quietly crumbling. This decline has been eroded by the impressive and widely acknowledged performance of Hon. Billy Osawaru during his tenure in the Green Chambers.
Feeling threatened by Osawaru’s growing popularity, Aisowieren is reportedly desperately seeking ways to dent Osawaru’s unblemished record. He has allegedly sought to pressure Chief Billy to divert public resources and contracts to serve personal interests, asking him to be loyal to Aisowieren rather than to the people. He is attempting to reshape local leadership to suit his own ambitions, while ignoring the democratic choice and welfare of the constituency.
During his tenure, Patrick Aisowieren did not sponsor a single meaningful bill, nor did he move any motion on the floor that addressed the pressing needs of the people. In contrast, Hon. Billy Osawaru has delivered tangible results, including:
Roads constructed,Boreholes drilled Solar-powered streetlights installed,Medical outreaches conducted,Classrooms built and renovated,Skills acquisition centers established,Empowerment program, people oriented bills.
CYAND also recalled that Patrick Aisowieren previously failed with the Lady Sandra Aguebor video saga, a staged attempt at propaganda that backfired and failed to achieve its intended effect. This pattern underscores a reliance on recycled narratives and misleading claims rather than substantive service or leadership.
Reports indicate that Patrick Aisowieren’s attempts to influence Chief Billy Osawaru come with the expectation that he would abandon Hon. Pius Odubu, who remains a respected leader and advocate for the people. CYAND describes this as a blatant attempt to undermine local political balance and interfere with the democratic representation of the constituency.
Despite these pressures, Chief Billy Osawaru has remained unwaveringly committed to collaborating with Pius Odubu and other community leaders, ensuring that governance and development remain people-centered.
CYAND stressed that the people of Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde must reject any attempt at imposition of candidates or political interference designed to satisfy the ambitions of a few. Leadership cannot be dictated; it must be earned through service, dedication, and proven performance.
Hon. Billy Osawaru has remained steadfast in his focus on community-oriented development, empowerment, and transparency. He has resisted pressures to compromise on integrity and will continue to put the people first.
It is now more important than ever that the people stand behind Hon. Billy Osawaru, supporting his continued efforts to deliver real, tangible, and impactful development across the constituency. The choice is clear: leadership that serves the people versus leadership that seeks to serve personal ambition.
The good people of Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde are wiser than staged propaganda and recycled narratives. They understand the difference between results and rhetoric, integrity and opportunism, service and self-interest.
Let this serve as a reminder: Hon. Billy Osawaru has delivered; he remains committed; he will not be distracted by political manipulation; and he will continue to work alongside respected leaders like Hon. Pius Odubu for the good of the people. The constituency deserves leadership rooted in service, accountability, and real impact, and that is precisely what he offers.
CYAND therefore calls on Hon. Patrick Aisowieren to:
1. Publicly retract the remarks against Hon. Billy Osawaru
2. Apologize to the lawmaker for statements that have fueled unnecessary tension
3. Refocus on issue-based political engagement, accountability, and constituency development
CYAND also urged all political actors within Edo South to maintain mature, responsible, and issue-centered discourse as political activities build toward the 2027 elections, emphasizing that the unity and welfare of Orhionmwon and Uhunmwonde must remain the priority.
