Josémaria Escriva Foundation Strengthens Grassroots Malaria Response Ahead of World Malaria Day

EKPOMA, EDO STATE — April 7, 2026

In a decisive step toward combating malaria at the community level, the Josémaria Escriva Foundation has reinforced ongoing public health efforts by supporting a team of medical student advocates preparing for the 2026 World Malaria Day outreach.

The intervention follows a strategic engagement held at the Foundation’s Ujoelen office, where the Chief Responsibility Officer, Dr. Jude Obasanmi, received a delegation from the Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH) of the Nigerian Medical Students’ Association, Ambrose Alli University Medical Students’ Association (AAUMSA). The team was led by its Local Public Health Officer, Osi-Momodu Rawdhahtull-Jannah.

As part of its contribution, the Foundation donated essential medical supplies, including anti-malaria medications, long-lasting insecticidal nets, and clinical gloves. In addition, it pledged logistical and operational support such as branded outreach materials and the deployment of trained volunteers to strengthen field execution. The outreach is scheduled to take place in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area, targeting vulnerable and underserved populations.

This support aligns with the global 2026 World Malaria Day theme, “Accelerating the Fight Against Malaria for a More Equitable World,” underscoring a shared commitment to closing healthcare access gaps in high-burden communities.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Obasanmi emphasized the importance of structured community engagement as a determinant of outreach success. He advised the team to establish early contact with community leaders to build trust and ensure effective mobilization. He further highlighted the need for disciplined volunteer coordination, comprehensive reporting mechanisms, and sustained stakeholder appreciation as critical elements of impactful public health interventions.

The Foundation is concurrently implementing its own malaria-focused initiatives across Akoko Edo and Igueben Local Government Areas, demonstrating a broader institutional commitment to disease prevention and health equity across Edo State.

Receiving the materials, Osi-Momodu Rawdhahtull-Jannah noted that the support significantly enhances the team’s operational readiness. She stressed that the intervention will improve access to preventive tools, diagnostics, and treatment for populations that are often excluded from formal healthcare systems.

Members of the delegation, including Gregory Bello-Arewa and Abigail Obozokhai, expressed appreciation for the Foundation’s timely support, describing it as both a material and strategic boost to their outreach capacity.

With strengthened collaboration between institutional actors and emerging healthcare professionals, the upcoming World Malaria Day activities in Irrua are positioned to deliver targeted, high-impact interventions—bringing essential prevention and treatment services closer to the communities that need them most.
