Addressing participants at the event, Okpebholo described the persistent power challenges in the state as a major constraint on economic growth, noting that unreliable electricity supply has continued to negatively impact businesses and livelihoods across Edo.
He disclosed that his administration has already commenced concrete steps to reposition the power sector, including the rollout of independent electricity projects across the state’s senatorial districts.
“We have flagged off a 100 megawatts power project in Benin City, and we will replicate the same in Edo Central. This is part of our broader strategy to decentralise power and ensure stable electricity supply for our people,” the governor said.
According to him, the initiative will extend reliable power access to Edo Central and Edo North (Afemai), fostering balanced development and stimulating economic activities across the state.

“I am in office to serve Edo people. Every part of the state will feel the impact of governance through projects that directly benefit the people,” he stated.
The governor also linked the progress recorded so far to the support of President , expressing confidence in mobilising substantial voter support for the President in the 2027 general elections.

He noted that similar projects are being planned for Edo Central as part of efforts to create a resilient and self-sustaining power ecosystem.
Meanwhile, the Ojuoromi of Uromi, His Royal Highness , used the occasion to draw attention to key infrastructural gaps in the area, particularly the abandoned Ahojie Township Stadium.
The monarch stressed the importance of sports infrastructure in youth development, economic stimulation, and community cohesion, urging the state government to prioritise the completion of the facility.
Responding, the governor assured that his administration remains focused on addressing critical needs across sectors, including power, healthcare, and sports development.
He also criticised the immediate past administration led by , alleging that several projects commissioned before the end of that government were incomplete, citing the Stella Obasanjo Hospital as a case in point.
